ROCKPORT – Linda Ann Nuesse, wife of Dr. William E. Nuesse, died Nov. 24, 2011, at Knox Center for Long Term Care, Rockland. She died of complications from a stroke, which occurred June 14, 2011. Linda was born 64 years ago in Scarsdale, N.Y., daughter of Edward and Mildred Milvaney.
Linda’s father built some of the skyline of Portland and Union Mutual Building. Linda went to his office as a 10-year-old, and became deeply interested in business, real estate, the markets and insurance. She was adept in her understanding of these affairs. She graduated from Yarmouth High School in 1965 and with a Bachelor of Science in international affairs from the University of Maine in 1969. She taught school in Waterville and Yarmouth. Her daughter, Heather, arrived in 1971. Linda earned a master’s degree in 1976 in education from the University of Maine. Linda began selling life insurance for Union Mutual, Portland, under Jack Burwell’s guidance and she liked the work. She helped write the nuclear power policy for the state of Maine under Gov. Longley’s administration. She was divorced in 1979. On July 24, 1982, she married Bill Nuesse and lived in the Camden-Rockport area. Her interests changed to real estate; and with Les Harvey, she developed Schooner Drive, Rockland. She worked for Charles and Mary Jordan, Jaret and Cohen, and Caldwell Bankers, Real Estate offices; she bought and sold a number of properties in Knox and Waldo County. She also served as president of Mid-Coast Mental Health when Dr. Bill Barnum was director and she served on the board of Consumer’s Water Co. for 12 years. Linda and her husband, Bill Nuesse, loved to travel to Europe and they especially enjoyed Ireland and Scotland. She golfed Dornock, Turnberry and the Queens Course at St. Andrews. After sailing the coast of Maine on “Granuaile,” she and Bill found an old farmhouse on Grindstone Neck in Winter Harbor and many a summer night were spent there. The last 10 years were spent at home in Tarpon Springs, Fla., during the winter months.
Her survivors include her husband, Bill of Rockport; daughter, Heather of Minneapolis; sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Osgood of Yarmouth; and brother-in-law, Mr. Chris Fallon and his children, Christopher, Patrick and their wives, and Caitlin, all of the Philadelphia area. Passed on are her parents; and sister, Susan Fallon.
