TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Lester Maylon Bartley, 66, died Nov. 28, 2011, in Tallahassee, Fla.
Lester graduated magna cum laude in 1967 from Union College, Barbourville, Ky., with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics with a minor in physics and German. He then graduated in 1970 from the University of Kansas at Lawrence in Kansas with a Master of Arts degree in mathematics. In 1986 he graduated from American College, Bryn Mawr, Pa. Chartered Life Underwriter 1990, Chartered Financial Consultant. In 1991 Life Underwriter Training Council, Washington, D.C.: Life Underwriter training council fellow. His two primary occupations were a high school mathematics instructor – a fulfillment of his childhood dream – and later as an insurance sales representative for Prudential. He gave his time as president of Mars Hill Rotary Club and vice president of United Way of Aroostook County. In 1995 he was a member of People to People Insurance Delegation to China. He was also the author of several articles appearing in Life Association News. Lester was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Tallahassee, Fla. Its many members visited and cared for him through two and a half years of illness. Prior to this he was a longtime member of Full Gospel Assembly Church, Mars Hill. He was well known to members of this congregation for his musical contributions on the clarinet and digital horn, and served for several years as a deacon. Lester’s many passions, such as music and riding his motorcycle, filled his days and eyes with great joy. He will be greatly missed on earth and highly treasured in heaven.
Lester was predeceased by his father, Leland Bartley, in 1977. Surviving family members are his wife, Sharon Bartley; his two children, Joel and his wife, Ibeliz Bartley, and Jill and her son, Karim Amrani; mother, Ella Stickney; and sister, Candace Donovan and her husband, Harry, and children, Jonathan, Nathaniel, Rachel and Patricia.
