BANGOR – Louise M. Fitzgerald, 98, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at a Bangor health care facility with her family by her side. She was born July 22, 1913, in Bass Harbor, the oldest of eight to her parents John and Bernice (Sprague) Salisbury.

She was educated in Hartland and Bar Harbor schools. Louise married Bernard W. Fitzgerald, he passed away in 1994. She worked at Solon Manufacturing, Skowhegan, for a few years. During World War II she lived in South Portland and worked at a nursing home. She was a homemaker for many years. Louise was a past member of Sons of Union Veterans Auxiliary, Canaan, for many years. One of her greatest passions was gardening. Louise also was a Boston Post Cane recipient in 2008 in Canaan.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Scott and her husband, Bruce, of Winterport; two brothers, Kenneth Salisbury and Richard Salisbury, both of Skowhegan; three grandchildren, Cathy Savoia and her husband, Michael, of Perth Amboy, N.J., Sandra Lamei and her husband, Mohammed, of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., and James Scott of Manchester, N.H.; two great-grandchildren, Shirin and Scott Lamei of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; one niece, Patricia Cyr and her husband, Gerald, of Norridgewock; special nephew, Kevin Sprague of Surry; many other nieces and nephews; and a cousin, Olive Bragg of Bangor. She was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Elden, Gerald, John and Robert; and a sister, Mildred.

Viewing hours will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, where a funeral service will be held noon Saturday, Dec. 3, with the Rev. Mark Tanner officiating. Burial will be afterward at Fairview Cemetery, Canaan. Donations may be made in her memory to Canaan Public Library, 288 Main St., Canaan, ME 04924.
