PRESQUE ISLE and MASARDIS – Mona J. Cain, 83, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 30, 2011, at a Presque Isle hospital. She was born Jan. 18, 1928, in Westfield, daughter of John and Cora (Wright) Cray.

She was a dispatcher for the volunteer fire department in Masardis, had a call name of “Mother Hen” during the citizens band radio era, and enjoyed talking to truckers. She was past grand matron of the Rebekah Lodge in Ashland.

She is survived by three sons and their wives, Stephen and Margaret Cain Sr. of Chapman, Warren and Barbara Cain Sr. of Sumter, S.C., and John and Ann Cain II of Hampden; eight grandchildren, Stephen Jr. and his wife, Meredith, of Hallowell, Warren Jr. and his wife, Rita, of Smyrna, Michael and his wife, Karole, of Sumter, S.C., Jason and his wife, Ricia, of Sidney, Joey of Limestone, Nicole, Cody and Cameron of Hampden; seven great-grandchildren, Jacob, Lauren and Kiersten of Sumter S.C., Nolan John and Julian of Sidney, Hannah and Ailsa of Hallowell; sister-in-law, Gladys Cain of Presque Isle; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John O. Cain, in April 2007; brother, Ora Cray; and two sisters, Arlene Fletcher and Maxine Roma.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, with the Rev. Donald Morton officiating. Friends may call noon until time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Masardis Cemetery, Masardis. A reception will be held in Masardis.
