ELLSWORTH – Mary Elizabeth Bedard went to the house of the Lord Dec. 2, 2011, to be with her beloved husband, Al. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of death. Mary was born Feb. 12, 1925, in Trenton, to Caroline and John Marden Dunbar.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mary was a lover of books and was a librarian at Ellsworth Public Library for years after spending 30 years traveling the world as a military wife. Mary worked for a number of years as a telephone operator in Ellsworth. Above all, she valued being a mother and grandmother most.
She is survived by her daughters, Beth Bland and husband, Kevin, of Ellsworth, Mary Jane Daly and husband, Bill, of Albert Lea, Minn., and Becky Lundberg and husband, Kim, of Austin, Minn.; son, Peter Bedard and wife, Susan, of Ellsworth; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and siblings and spouses, Ralph and Jackie Dunbar of Brewer, Harold Dunbar of Hancock, “Cookie” and Jim Patten of Ellsworth and Kathy and Wes Cook of York. She was loved by many nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Lt. Cmdr. Albert Bedard; and her brother, Keith Dunbar.
Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 231 Main St., Ellsworth, with Father Scott Mower, celebrant. A reception will be afterward at the Father Kenney Center. Interment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Ellsworth.
