SANFORD, Maine — A Sanford road has been blocked and closed to the public as authorities step up their search for a man they consider armed and dangerous.

State Police spokesman Steve McCausland said Monday that troopers are searching for David Hobson in an area along New Dam Road where a truck was reported stolen by a homeowner there.

Police say they’re looking for a 1992 red and white Chevrolet S-10 pickup. Police searched two houses on New Dam Road belonging to relatives of Hobson.

Hobson, of Alfred, escaped from a New Hampshire prison last week while awaiting charges of burglary. Hobson is believed to have a weapon, according to police. An SUV he allegedly stole after his escape was found near the Alfred-Sanford town line Saturday night.

Hobson, who has a lengthy criminal history, is described as white, 5-feet-6-inches tall and 135 pounds. He was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt and sweatpants, and a police mug shot shows him with a shaved head.
