SEDGWICK – Keith R. Heavrin Sr., 88, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011. Keith leaves behind his beloved wife of 53 years, Leona Dorris Heavrin. Keith was born Oct. 24, 1923, in Struthers, Ohio, to Minnie Beatrice Simpson and Charles Ambrose Heavrin.

As a boy, amongst other things, he taught himself to electrify sewing machines for his mother and their neighbors. His love for gardening at a young age would benefit the family during the Great Depression. At 17, he joined the start of World War II and participated in the Pacific Theater of Operations aboard the USS Ingraham as a chief petty officer, 1942-1948. Afterwards, he attended Youngstown State University, Youngstown, Ohio. He was an Ohio Edison lineman before becoming head of maintenance for the corporate offices of Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co., Boardman, Ohio. Keith retired in 1980 and built the house of his dreams from the ground up. Keith enjoyed gardening, bird watching, poetry and reading.

Keith is survived by his brother, Charles A. Heavrin Jr.; and sister, Mary Jean Antal. Mary Jean is a retired nurse living in Struthers, Ohio, and Charles is a retired forester, living in Memphis, Tenn. Charles is the author of several significant forestry books. Charles and Jean survive Keith’s other brothers, Russell Heavrin, retired Ohio State patrol officer, and Robert Heavrin, who was retired from Youngstown Steel Door, Youngstown, Ohio. Keith leaves behind his children from his first marriage, Darryl Heavrin and his wife, Susan, and Judith Kupec and her husband, Gregory, all of Struthers, Ohio, Keith Heavrin Jr. of Surry, and Cassandra Heavrin and her husband, Scott Hamrick, of Houston. Keith’s other children are Timothy Heavrin and his wife, Marcy, of Winslow, Ariz., Tammy Heavrin of Cherryfield, Teresa Limeburner and her husband, Bryant, of Brooksville, and Tanya Snow of Sedgwick. Son, Terence Heavrin, passed away in 2008.

Keith leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Aaron, Shannon, Samuel, Benjamin, Stacy, Bridget, Dagan and Rebecca.

The family will hold a memorial service next summer. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send donations to Good Shepherd Food Pantry, P.O. Box 1807, Auburn, ME 04211.
