PERRY – Muriel (McLellan) Flagg DeShon, 90, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, at her home. Muriel was born May 18, 1921, at Welshpool, Campobello Island, daughter of the late Silas and Louise (Calder) McLellan.
Mrs. DeShon was a graduate of Shead Memorial High School, received her bachelor’s degree from Colby College and a master’s degree from the University of Maine. Muriel also did graduate work at Husson and the University of New Hampshire. Mrs. DeShon was a secondary teacher for 37 years in Eastport and Calais. Her associations included Chi Omega sorority; Delta Kappa Gamma society, where she served as president; commissioner of Maine State Museum; Maine Retired Teacher’s Association, where she served as recording secretary; Maine Association of Retirees; board member of the Border Historical Society; St. Croix International Garden Club; and Literary Round Table, where she served as president and recording secretary.
In 1950 Muriel married Philip Q. Flagg, who died in 1984. In 1988 she married Howard C. DeShon, who died in 2007. Surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins; and her caretakers, Judy Kierstead, Rhonda Kierstead, Melinda Johnston and Sally Doten.
Visiting hours will be held noon-2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Mays Funeral Home – Flagg Chapel, 72 High St., Eastport, where a celebration of Muriel’s life will begin 2 p.m. Saturday.
