MATTAWAMKEAG – Roger L. Jordan Sr., 68, passed away Dec. 8, 2011, with his children by his side at Millinocket Regional Hospital. He was born April 17, 1943, in Lincoln, the son of Maurice Jordan Jr. and Laura (Lancaster) Jordan.
He worked at the mills in Millinocket and East Millinocket for 45 years. He played bass in a band, The Northeast Cowboys, for years at “The Flats” and “The Houston House,” as well as many weddings and private parties. Roger enjoyed playing and listening to music. He spent his summers traveling by motor home from one Blue Grass festival to another for many years, enjoying meeting and befriending fellow Blue Grasser’s.
He is survived by his children, Roger Jordan Jr. and his wife, Lisa, of Mattawamkeag; his daughter, Rhonda Fraser and her husband, Chuck, of Newburgh; three grandchildren, Cody and Taylor Jordan and Ben Lafontain; one great-grandchild, Kolby Lafontain; two sisters, Clarice Murchison and Dorice Jordan; two brothers, Floyd and Vernon Jordan; and his loyal and faithful four-legged companion, Bogart. He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Maurice III and Cecil; and a sister, Hattie McGlaughlin.
Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at Mattawamkeag Cemetery, Hathaway Road, Mattawamkeag. There will be a gathering to visit and reminisce at the municipal building on Main Street after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Roger’s name may be made to Penobscot Valley Humane Society, P.O. Box 73, Lincoln, ME 04457.
