Limerick woman pleads guilty to theft of $10,000 from Key Bank branch

PORTLAND, Maine — A Limerick woman pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court to bank theft.

Annamarie J. Skillings, 27, waived indictment and admitted to stealing $10,000 between the summer or fall of 2010 and July 2011 from her former employer, Key Bank. She was working as a client services manager at the Kennebunk branch at the time of the thefts, according to the prosecution’s version of events to which she pleaded guilty.

U.S. District Judge Nancy Torresen scheduled Skillings’ sentencing for March 12.

Skillings faces up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $1 million. She also is expected to be ordered to pay restitution.

The theft was discovered on July 18 when an unscheduled audit of Skilling’s drawer was conducted, according to the prosecution version of events. In an interview that same day, Skilling admitted to a bank investigator that she had been stealing from her drawer for about eight months and had taken steps to conceal her theft.

Information about what efforts she made to cover up her actions was not revealed in court documents.
