BANGOR and ST. CLOUD, Fla. – Eva J. (Crawford) Estey, passed away peacefully Dec. 12, 2011, surrounded by her family at the home of her daughter in St. Cloud, Fla. She was born in Bangor, daughter of James R. and Annie J. (Kavanaugh) Crawford.

Eva married Richard S. Estey, Sept. 5, 1946, and was married for 52 years until his death in 1998. Eva was a graduate of Bangor High School, Husson College and the University of Maine, Orono. She was a member of National and State Teachers Association, Bangor’s Retired Teachers Association, alumni of Husson College and the University of Maine, Orono, Bangor and Veazie Senior Citizens, Saturday Nighter’s of Orono Country Club, a communicant of St. John’s Catholic Church, member of St. John’s Catholic Women’s Council, and a charter member of Y.A.C. Club. She was a volunteer and attended many of the local athletic events, especially during her children’s participation in sports and cheerleading. Eva worked for the U.S. government, state of Maine Vocational Rehabilitation Division Department of Education and Catholic Diocese of Human Service, and taught in local and vicinity schools. She enjoyed and was very dedicated to her family.

Surviving are two sons, Richard S. “Sam” Estey and his wife, Terry, of St. Cloud, Fla., and Robert J. Estey and companion, Arlene Rochefort, of Portland; daughter, Mary-Jane Estey of St. Cloud, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Robert Jr. and his wife, Holly, of Bangor, Mary Beth and her husband, Damien Martin, of Northern Ireland, Patrick and his wife, Mackenzie, of Carmel, Sammy, Megan, Rickey, and Stephen and his wife, Elizabeth, all of Florida; great-grandchildren, Preston, Zachary and Noah of Bangor, Dylan, Cliodhna, Saoirse and Joseph, all of Northern Ireland, Austin and Riley of Carmel, Stephen III and Alexis of Florida; one special niece, Jackie Shone; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Richard S. Estey; three brothers, Richard J., Charles A. and J. Lincoln Crawford; and three sisters, Lillian M. Crawford, K. Estelle Mortell and Mary F. Doll. The family sends special thanks to the entire staff of Samaritan Care Hospice of Florida.

Relatives and friend are invited to call 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul the Apostle, St. John’s Catholic Church, 207 York St., Bangor. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the services at the Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St. Bangor.
