HUDSON – Ruth E. Cunningham, 80, was called home Dec. 11, 2011, at home, with her loving family by her side. She was born Oct. 27, 1931, daughter of Harvey T. McCullough and Elva (Walker) O’Dell.
Ruth worked many years as a clerk at Thompson’s General Store. She worked at many places, including Old Town Canoe and Fleet Bank throughout the years. Ruth, her husband, John, and their dog, Libby, delivered the Bangor Daily News for nearly 20 years, braving many cold and snowy mornings to ensure their many loyal customers received their paper on time. She enjoyed spending time with her pets, especially her dog, Libby. She was a truly wonderful woman, who loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her six children, Gloria Curtis of Bangor, Sharon Tozier of Lake Pannasoffkee, Fla., John D. Cunningham and wife, Tina, of Hudson, Eva Allen of Corinth, Dale L. Cunningham and wife, Bobbie, of Kenduskeag, and Gayle Munzer and husband, Charlie, of Dover-Foxcroft; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Joe and wife, Pat McCullough, of Corinth, William McCullough of Lagrange, Harvey McCullough and wife, Bette, of Hampden; and sister, Victoria Bean of Garland. She was predeceased by her husband, John; and brothers, Buddy and Guy McCullough. A special thanks goes out to her nurse, Dana, from Gentiva, St. Joseph Hospice Care and all the other wonderful people who helped care for her.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at Mohawk Cemetery, Hudson, with Pastor Garnett Chute officiating. There will be a gathering of friends and family after the service at her home in Hudson.
