MARS HILL – Chesley J. Gallupe, 92, passed away Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, at The Aroostook Health Center, Mars Hill. He was born June 14, 1919, in Centerville, New Brunswick, son of Hubert and Josse Gallupe.
Chesley worked for the railroad for many years and was also employed by Austin Griffin. He loved to fish and hunt, but his favorite pastime especially in later years was bingo. Chesley and his wife, Lillian, started as volunteers at the bingo games at the health center. He loved the staff at the health center and he will also be missed by them.
He is survived by two sons, Ronald and his wife, Linda, of Mars Hill, and Allan and his wife, Carol, of Pittsfield; a daughter, Vida Ryder and her husband, Ronald, of Dexter; and son-in-law, Wayne Briggs of Standish. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; as well as a special brother-in-law, Bernard Wilson and his wife, Nora, of St. John, New Brunswick; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Lillian (Wilson) Gallupe; daughter, Susan Briggs; infant son, Gordon; four brothers and four sisters.
