OLD TOWN – Joseph Fredrick “Freddie” Bourque, 87, died peacefully Dec. 19, 2011, at a health care facility in Orono. He was born Feb. 9, 1924.

Freddie proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3381 and a member of Elks Lodge 1287. He was a hand sewer by trade and employed by Old Town Shoe. He retired from University of Maine, Orono, as a janitor.

He will be greatly missed by his longtime companion of 35 years, Loretta Gallant and her family, Dianne Gallant of Old Town, Sonny and Nancy Gallant of Florida, Danny and Jeane Gallant of Salisbury, Mass., Debra Horne of Old Town and Brenda Gallant of Greenbush; many nieces, nephews and grandchildren. He is survived by two brothers, Francis Bourque of Wheaton, Ill., and Reggie Bourque of Deippe, New Brunswick.
