SKOWHEGAN – Arthur James Aube, 80, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, with his family by his side at home. He was born Nov. 13, 1931, in Weehawken, N.J., the son of Elzear and Carmeline (Reny) Aube. He was orphaned at the young age of 14 months and brought to Waterville, to be raised by his aunt and uncle, Emile and Alma LeTournear.
A graduate of Waterville High School and Thomas College, Arthur was a retired field advisor and examiner for the state of Maine. He served in the military during the Korean War. He enjoyed fly-fishing and tying his own flies, gardening and he was an avid model airplane builder and flyer.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirely (Giroux) Aube of Skowhegan; three daughters, Cynthia Carter of Gardiner, Diane Aube of Saco and Leslie Nagy of Clovis, N.M.; a son, James Aube of Washburn; five grandchildren, Ian and Hillary Carter, Lauren and Christopher Nichols, and Jessica Aube; a sister, Beatrice Parks of Norwood, Mass.; a special cousin, Linda Miller of Bethany, Conn.; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Roland and Emile; and a grandson, Bryan James Carter.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church, Skowhegan. At the request of the family, there will be no visitation hours. Interment will be in spring 2012 at St. Francis Cemetery, Waterville. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations in Arthur’s memory to Fuel for the Poor, care of Christ the King Parish, P.O. Box 369, Skowhegan, ME 04976.
