BREWER – John F. Goodness, 78, went to be with the Lord Dec. 16, 2011. John was born Dec. 20, 1932, in his family home in Brewer, the son of Leo and Grace (Sutton) Goodness.

He was a graduate of Brewer High School and Husson College, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. He had been a self-employed accountant for 45 years. John served his country as a U.S. Army corporal during the Korean War, stationed in France. He was extremely active in his community serving others in Scouting organizations, PTA, NAA, Brewer High School District Trustees, Library Association, Brewer Boosters Club and many other civic organizations. He was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Parish, Parish Council, and Chowder and Broom Club. John enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. He loved watching his children and grandchildren playing sports and participating in activities. Many will remember him as a great storyteller.

John is survived by his loving wife, Mildred (Locke) Goodness of Brewer; three daughters, Vickie Goodness and her husband, Stephen Letourneau, of Madison, Ala., Jeanne (Goodness) Adomatis and Kathy Goodness, both of Brewer; one son, Jon Goodness and his wife, Linda (Breau) Goodness; along with grandchildren, Matthew, David, Naomi and Kristina Goodness, all of Carmel; one brother, Richard A. Goodness and his wife, Thelma, of Brewer; many nieces, nephews and cousins. A special thank you to New Hope Hospice and New England Home Health Care.

A Mass of Christian burial celebrating John’s life will be held 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 531 North Main St., Brewer, with reception afterward in the church center. Final resting place will be Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
