HAMPDEN, Maine — A Scarborough woman is offering a reward for her kitten that went missing Monday while she and her pet were staying at a home in Hampden Acres on Western Avenue.

Susan Connolly said she has no idea how her 7-month-old male cat named Spirit escaped from her friend’s home where she was baby-sitting for a few days.

“He’s black and gray with strong tabby markings, a white belly and silky, silky fur,” she said Saturday. “He looks like an adult cat but still has a lot of kitten in him.”

He is not wearing a collar.

Connolly said she got the kitten about six months ago from an animal shelter in Kennebunkport after living for nearly four years without a cat.

“I lost my significant other four years ago on Dec. 15, and my cat I’d had for 17 years died two months later,” she said. “That’s why I named him Spirit.”

Anyone with information about the kitten is asked to call Connolly at 420-7030 or 883-4950.

  1. Would you rather have hear about bombings, fatal car accidents, and home invasions? I’m sure the families of the 4 killed today in Palermo would much rather that all the BDN has to report is a story of a lost kitten.

      1. Is there a problem with someone wanting to find their cat? Instead of it being left out in the cold? this woman clearly loves her animal. Apparently that’s a problem for you?

      2. “A lost kitten is not news Paper News…..”
        Sure it is.
You just read it didn’t you ?

So is your denial of reality : ‘  A lost kitten is not news Paper News….. ” when it is clearly a news story, today, how you would run a paper ?
        Get the facts straight, first.

When you own a newspaper then someone, like your reporters,  might … or at least pretend to…  care what you think  as you deny reality .

        lol.

  2. How much is the reward? A cat isn’t worth all that much these days. They’re a dime a dozen!!!!! BDN needs to go after some real stories…..JEEZ….pathetic story

    1. “A cat isn’t worth all that much these days”…….What an asinine thing to say. Maybe you should go back to Montana so your mama can teach you some manners or………maybe you could just keep your nasty comments to yourself. Merry Christmas.

    2. I got my cat for free. She’s worth more than anything else I own.
      In fact, she’s priceless.

      Hoping Spirit is hanging tough!

  3. Yawnnnnnn, let’s see what’s making the top headlines…come on….this story belongs on library bulletin board….

  4. I had a drill and skill saw stolen out of my back seat and it didn’t even make the news…hhmmmm I might want to check out the local pawn shops

    1. I see the limited news value of this story to you didn’t prevent you from commenting twice .I am sorry you lost your property but it doesn’t love you back.I hope this lady finds her companion.I have three rescued cats and I would be devastated if harm came to them.

      1. is there a limit to how many time you can comment, didn’t know there was…next time I comment I’ll try to say it all in one sentence….as for my tools loving me, how do u know that they didn’t, I kept them well cleaned and charged…as for the flea bag cat, if it loved back it would do everything it could to find the owner…

  5. I hope you find your kitty-I just got a new one for Christmas.I’ve had 4 cats die in the last 2 years,so I know what you’re going through. And don’t get upset by the buttheads that are making lame comments on here…good luck-I’ll say a prayer for you and Spirit…

  6. Hope someone finds your kitten safe and sound! My cat ran off over 2 years ago and just recently showed back up. I am doing everything to try to catch him,but he runs from me. I have to assume he was adopted by someone in the neighborhood.
