LOS ANGELES — A soldier on leave from Afghanistan was shot and seriously injured Friday night in San Bernardino, Calif., during a welcome home party in his honor, police said.
Christopher Sullivan, 22, was on leave from the Army for the holidays and attending a party when his brother and another man began arguing over football a little before midnight, San Bernardino Police Lt. Gwendolyn Waters said.
The gunman, a man in his 20s, punched Sullivan’s brother, Waters said. Sullivan stepped in and the other man pulled a gun from his waistband and fired at least three shots. Two shots hit Sullivan, one in the neck and the other in the buttocks.
Between 30 and 40 people attended the party, which was held at the home of one of Sullivan’s friends, Waters said. The shooting happened outside, in the side yard.
Sullivan is in very serious condition, though he is expected to survive. The shooter fled the party on foot and has not been located or identified.
The San Bernardino Sun reported that Sullivan sustained a cracked collar bone and brain damage last December in Afghanistan in a suicide bombing. He was recovering at a base in Kentucky. Sullivan was awarded the Purple Heart for his injuries, the paper reported.
Police told KTBC-TV that Sullivan may be paralyzed as a result of the shooting.
“We’re not sure if he’s going to be paraplegic or quadriplegic,” Sgt. Gary Robertson said.

In response to getting our troops out of California now-Back in the 60’s, I had the pleasure of wearing a pair of Uncle Sam’s boots in California . I was on my way to Vietnam for the second time. One late nite, while getting a burger at a greasy spoon, the waitress, fresh out of high school, asked me which way I was going so I told her. We closed the place and she told me I needed a shower. Amy, where ever you are, I’ll never forget you. God bless you!!!!!!!!
Dear Penthouse: I never thought it could happen to me…
Dunc Thank you for your support
The shooter was an aspiring Rap/HipHop artist just getting his life turned around.
He was making better choices but got sidetracked at the party.
Give him a break.
You serious?
I read it as dripping of sarcasm, similar to the Theonepercenter comment.
One never knows with some of these rapper gangstas that post.
That’s for sure! A long winded reprimand usually follows the misunderstanding. At least you asked. :)
(Of course there are the ones who really do mean it)
Not even close. But seriously, don’t let this destroy your faith in the Rap community. lol

With friends like this…
No good deed goes unpunished.
Well we know it wasn’t 2-Pac doing the shooting
Does this mean the bad guys Cali are better shots then the bad guys in Afghanistan? Once again a great example of why the anti gun laws in cali do not work. If the solider had his m16 and his Beretta the other guy would not even have went for his “gat”…
A very very sad look at the state of this country. A soldier gunned down at home? Sad just sad.
Gangs have infiltrated the US Services. It has been well documented that it is a problem.
