HIGHLAND, Calif. – David M. Putnam, 90, passed away peacefully Dec. 21, 2011, at Kaiser Hospital, Fontana, Calif. He was born Nov. 29, 1921, in Fort Fairfield, to Rae (Merrithew) and George Putnam.

He resided in San Bernardino, Calif., and Highland, Calif., for 63 years. He was the owner and operator of Dave’s Market for more than 30 years. He was also a long-term member of the Elks, UCT, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Our Lady of Assumption Church. He served in World War II in the 3rd Armored Division. He enjoyed traveling, reading and playing cards.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mildred; daughter, Mary and husband, Bill Christelman, of Running Springs, Calif., George of Los Angeles and Susan and husband, Roger Braden, of McMinnville, Ore.; sister, Barbara Burnham of Maine; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Billy; and brother, Gen. George Putnam.

A memorial Mass will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 796 W. 48th St., San Bernardino, Calif.
