LINCOLN – Eugene “Genie” Sutherland, 65, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011, surrounded in the warmth and comfort of his devoted wife and family at a Bangor hospital. He was born Dec. 9, 1946, at the same hospital, to the loving arms of Clair Sutherland Sr. and Geraldine (Severance) Sutherland, who predeceased him in 2009 and 2010, respectively.

Gene worked at Great Northern Paper Co., Millinocket, for 40 years, raising his family and making a life in Lincoln. He was married for 46 years to the love of his life, Annabell (Godbyr) Sutherland.

He blessed the lives of his children and family: son, Kevin Sutherland and his wife, Ann (Cox) Sutherland, of Mattamiscontis; two daughters, Tammy Sutherland and her companion, Bob Wilson, of Saco, and Wendy Sutherland and her husband, Dave Finlay, of Toronto; five grandchildren, Travis and Trevor Sutherland of Mattamiscontis, Erika and Joshua Coffin of Saco, and Jensen Finlay and stepgrandson, Drake Finlay, both of Toronto; one great-grandson, Carter Graham of Saco; one sister, Gloria McCloskey and her husband, Doug, of West Enfield; and two brothers, Clair “Elgin” Sutherland and his wife, Carole, of Lyman, and John Sutherland and his wife, Lori, of Lincoln. In addition to his family, everyone who knew Gene has their own cherished memories and treasured stones, the last Christmas gifts Gene gave them, that they can take comfort from.

Friends and family are invited to share their favorite memories and times at a graveside service 10 a.m. Wednesday at Lincoln Cemetery officiated by the Rev. Roy Richardson.
