MILBRIDGE – Gladys V. Dorr, 87, born in and a lifelong resident of Milbridge, died Dec. 31, 2011, at Narraguagus Bay Health Care Facility where she resided for the past several years. She was a daughter of Theodore “Jack” and Sophie Leighton Strout.
She was a graduate of Milbridge High School and a graduate of the cadet nursing program at Eastern Maine General Hospital, Bangor. For many years she was the public health nurse for the town of Milbridge, did private duty nursing and was the office nurse for Dr. Donald M. Robertson. Gladys was also a Civil Service employee with the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, and retired as postmaster of Harrington in December 1989. She was a life member of Alcyone Chapter of Eastern Star and a member of Milbridge Congregational Church. Gladys enjoyed dancing, various crafts and quilt making. For many years she wintered in Sarasota, Fla.
She was predeceased by her three siblings, and in 1989 she was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Robert H. Dorr Sr. She is survived by her daughter, Starr Yeaton and her husband, Kelcy; son, Robert Jr. and his wife, Melinda; four grandchildren, Tammie C. Moon and her husband, Doug, Carla T. Mclean and her husband, Jerry, Hillary J. Cuffori and her husband, Tony, and Robert L. Dorr; four great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Deondra, Nakomis and Silas; and several nieces and nephews. The family thanks Dr. Kerry Crowley and the staff at Narraguagus Bay Health Care Facility for their dedication and care throughout the past several years.
Friends are invited to visit with family 6-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Main Street, Milbridge. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Milbridge Congregational Church. Burial will take place in the family lot at Evergreen Cemetery, Milbridge.
