BROOKLIN – Frances Marian Freethey, 87, died Jan. 3, 2012, at Island Nursing Home, Deer Isle. She was born May 10, 1924, in Brooklin, the daughter of Herbert Whitney and Stella M. (Farnham) Tapley.

The greatest joy of Frances’ life was staying home and raising her children. She loved to knit, was a great cook, especially jams and jellies. She was a lifetime member of Brooklin Baptist Church.

She is survived by her sons, Richard, Darrell and Robert, all of Brooklin; daughters, Linda of Blue Hill, Tammy of Bucksport and Melanie of Brooklin; grandchildren, Kevin, Danny, Toby, Sandy, Trista, Ethan, Miranda, Cera, Michael and Kimberly; great-grandchildren, Kristi, Kari, Cory, Alihea, Joshua, Jacob, Jarrod, David, Austin, Paul and Jackson; great-great-grandchildren, Dylan, Lexi and Kerryn; special nieces and nephews, Steve Tapley, Dennis Robertson, Louise Stover, Sandra Gray and Tina Hodgdon. She will be reunited in heaven with family and two lifelong friends, Shirlie Staples and Catherine “Cabby” Allen. She was predeceased by her husband, William R.; a son, William, in 2005; brothers, Lewis and Edward; and sisters, Hazel, Lena and Wilma.

Visiting hours will be noon-1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, at Brooklin Baptist Church, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. with the Rev. Peter Sprague officiating.
