ORONO, Maine — Local police charged a Corinth man with littering Wednesday after the content of trash bags left outside a Dumpster at Talmar Wood was traced to him.
Issued a summons was 41-year-old Shawn Bouchard, Orono police Sgt. Scott Scripture said Thursday night.
Scripture said the summons was the result of some detective work on the part of an employee of Talmar Wood, where the management was becoming increasingly frustrated about trash being thrown into on-site receptacles by people who aren’t tenants.
After finding five trash bags set on the ground beside a full Dumpster, the employee allegedly sifted through the contents of at least one of the bags and found trash with Bouchard’s name on it and turned the information over to police. It was not clear how many of the bags were left there by Bouchard, Scripture said.
“It’s not that uncommon,” Scripture said of illegal trash dumping, which he noted also can result in a charge of theft of services because property owners and managers pay fees for the use of Dumpsters.
He said the problem appears to have increased since area cities and towns began implementing pay-as-you-throw systems.

We do pay to get rid of it….in the form of exorbitant property taxs and rent paid to landlords who pay property taxs. The towns are following a corporate model of less for more. To hear Brewer officials talk,one would think that the recycling programs are a great success. And if you look at it from the perspective of increased revenue to towns,you’d be right. However if your looking at it from the perspective of a taxpayer recieveing services for their tax payments,well…that’s a different story.
Thanx for stating what we already are aware of, but this guy wasn’t playing by the rules, hence my comment. My town taxes pay for our transfer station, plus a $50 sticker to get in, plus we have to buy the trash bags from the town.
Produce companies do that., The thing is we need stuff we pay for it and have no choice but to pay to get rid of it. Some discard of it their own way for free unless caught

In Brewer check the ditch between Irving and the old Lemforter building. Hard evidence that the “halloween bags” have unintended consequences. That was a slippery tax increase.
I know a gravel pit in Hampden where you can throw your trash without any punishment.
A guy pulled onto a piece of rural property that I owned and dumped tires, a refrigerator, and a sofa. I had to load them up, take them to the transfer station, and pay the disposal fees. I took lots of pictures. When my friends ask me why I have a chain across the road now like some flat lander, I just show them the pictures.

I also own property. There’s been mattresses, bags of dirty diapers, carcasses…can’t remember what else…that had to be taken to the dump (transfer station). Well, maybe not the carcasses. Hate to see what treasures are on it after this winter.
If the guy recycled some of his trash, he might have gotten away with it.
Maine is full of generous people. I live on a state highway and everytime I mow the ditch in front of my house I find empty bottles and cans as well as McDonald’s bags. I can’t believe that people would just give me this stuff without asking anything in return. Pure generosity I tell you. They probably drop it off on the way to do some volunteer work.

And you probably can’t redeem those bottles and cans for the 5 cents because you have no proof they were purchased in the state. ;)
Same thing here on Rt# 11 up in the county,, but I don’t give them their deposit back :-(

Least he was responsible enough to dispose of it properly, smart enough to not pay the $1.50 to throw away his trash. I can start naming off a few roads of trash bags dumped on the side of the road, mattresses, furniture, etc. If the MSP is bored and doing detective work to trace down people for illegal trash throwing, I got a few roads I can give them and they can start fingerprinting some furniture even and get trash off our roadways. Maybe next time this guy should throw his trash on the road side, apparently it is OK to do that instead.
Please people….have a separate trash container for anything with your name on it.

Even this old, crusty 60’s child remembers the crying Indian from the commercials. The background showed factories belting out black plumes of pollutants. And as a little kid, I was traumatized. “Oh no! We’re all gonna die of pollution!”

Talmar wood is low income housing. I’ll bet his baby’s momma lives there.
I have heard of a few people who will take small bags of trash and place them in municipal trash cans in and around Belfast, it must save them hundreds of dollars annually. Besides with taxes in East Belfast with few city services it almost seems to be a fair trade.
The minute we started charging folks to throw away their trash and other refuse was the beginning of increased illegal dunping in our beautiful Maine woods. Ask any hunter or outdoorsman what they are seeing out there. If you had to choose between groceries, heating oil,gas for you car, medical needs, or buying trash bags what would you do? I know every person dumping illegally isn’t poor, but a lot of them are.
You can just bring your garbage to a public park, leave it on the ground, claim it as an ocCUpy camp and you will not have to clean it up.
I’ve seen an Occupy look a like camp on land I own outside of the Bangor area. It’s just trash from someone who didn’t want buy the bags or pay to go the dump. What do they call that, “unintended consequenses” from a good idea?
At least he doesn’t throw his trash out the window like Smokers do with their Cigarette butts.
