BIRCH HARBOR – Robert Stillman Ray, 85, died Jan. 4, 2012, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Sept. 26, 1926, in Jonesport, son of Vineyard and Faustina “Tina” (Young) Ray.
Bob work was a co-captain with his father, Vineyard, on the sardine carrier the EVA GRACE for Stinson Sardine Co. for 20 years. He also worked as a mail carrier for 17 years for U.S. Postal Service. He was a U.S. Army veteran servicing during World War II. Bob was a member of American Legion Post 207 of Trenton. He was proud U.S. veteran who flew his flag on a daily basis and a proud recipient of his World War II Walking Cane from Coles Museum, Bangor. Bob enjoyed his scooter, watching sports, his dog snuggles and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kathleen “Kay” (Dow) Ray of Birch Harbor; one son, Gregory Ray and his wife, Loretta, of Bar Harbor; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Juanita Stanwood of Brewer, and Christine Dow and her husband, Neal, of Ellsworth and Florida; one brother, Irving “Snookie” Ray of Winter Harbor; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and one special niece, Rose White of Otis. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one daughter, Pamela Ray Lounder.
Friends may call 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Main Street, Milbridge. A military graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 9, at Corea Cemetery.
