TOPSHAM, Maine — Topsham police charged a Bath man they say stole more than $400 worth of cigarettes from a business in the Topsham Fair Mall last Saturday.
The suspect wasn’t working alone, according to police.
Lt. Christopher Lewis said Darrell White II, 24, was summonsed for theft at the police station at 3:31 p.m. Tuesday.
White allegedly took six cartons of cigarettes worth $413 from the Maine Smoke Shop on Dec. 31. White returned Tuesday and the clerk recognized him from security footage.
Lewis said the footage shows White loading his pockets with cartons while an accomplice distracted the clerk. Police continue to investigate the theft and work to identify whoever accompanied White.
Lewis said Thursday it is possible more charges could be filed against White, and whoever helped him.

$70 a carton ? ! ! !
Glad I don’t smoke.
DANG! cigs are worth more then their weight in gold….what would have been a better headline would have read “Bath man on bath salts”…
When I worked nites at Irving we got a weekly delivery of grocerys and the 5 cases of ciggarette cartons worth around 10,000 bux were the first and last items to be counted. They often equaled better than 50% of the delivery each week.
He put cartons of cigarettes in his pockets?? Wow, must have been big pockets. Keep raising the price of cigarettes and we’ll see more of this.
Glad I quit when cigs were 50 cents a pack.
