CHERRYFIELD – Barbara Farren Mathews, wife of the late Everett Mathews Sr., passed away unexpectedly Jan. 5, 2012. She was born March 11, 1942, in Columbia, daughter of late Prescott and Natalene (Willey) Farren.

Barbara attended Harrington High School. She worked for Wyman’s Blueberry Co. for many years, retiring as a quality control technician. Barbara enjoyed camping and traveling with her husband, visiting many exotic locations. She loved to shop and has a huge collection of shoes to prove it. Barbara was an avid reader with a ceiling to floor bookshelf full of books. She loved to play practical jokes and had an infectious laugh. Barbara will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Everett Jr. and his wife, Jean, and Debbie Poirier and her husband, Richie; stepdaughters, Elaine Wood and Cathy Kirschner and her husband, John; beloved grandchildren, Katy and Jenny Mathews, Colby and Lindsay Poirier, Jaimie, Alison, Nicole and Mary-Margaret Kirschner, Crystal Look, Ashley and Sarah Wood; one great-granddaughter; sisters, Elaine Beal and Sandra Chipman; a brother, Phillip Farren; many nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Nedra, Fulton, Becky, Jimmy, Jolene, Emory and Paula. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Everett Sr.; a brother, Prescott “Buddy” Farren; and a sister, Rosalee Farren.

Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Main Street, Milbridge. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, at Cherryfield Baptist Church, Main Street, Cherryfield, with Pastor Max Merrill officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cherryfield Public Library, 35 Main St., Cherryfield, ME 04622.
