LINCOLN – Byron L. Shorey passed away peacefully Jan. 7, 2012, in Lincoln. He was born Aug. 31, 1952, in Lincoln, son of Helen Shorey and the late Lloyd Shorey.
Byron graduated from Lee Academy in 1970. From the age of 3 Byron knew he wanted to be a truck driver. Trucking was his life and he enjoyed working as a self-loader operator for Treeline Inc. for more than 23 years. He was also an avid NASCAR fan. Meeting and talking with Dale Earnhardt Sr. in Augusta in the 1980s was probably one of the greatest moments of Byron’s life. Byron was a member of Northern Penobscot Pullers Association. He and Glenda first starting pulling their street trucks in the late 1970s when a stone drag was used for pulling. His son, Chad, continues this tradition today, which made his dad really proud. Byron was a member of Lincoln Methodist Church.
In addition to his mother, Helen, Byron is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Glenda LaCombe Shorey; their son, Chad Byron of Lincoln; his brothers, Eric and wife, Ellen, and Russell and Pam of Lee. He also leaves behind a special father and mother-in-law, Lionel “Blackie” and Omerine LaCombe of Mattawamkeag, who will miss him dearly; brothers-in-law, Allen, and Steve and MaryLou; several nieces and nephews. He will sadly be missed by his niece, Shellie Dill, who took special care of Byron and his kitty, Lil’ One, who he nicknamed, Velcro. Anyone who was fortunate enough to know Byron held a special place in his heart and he had a big heart.
