To promote infant vision and eye health and to protect the babies of Maine, the week of Feb. 6-11 has been declared InfantSEE Week.
During the week, Maine-based optometrists will donate their time to provide no-cost comprehensive eye and vision assessments for babies between ages 6-12 months.
One in 10 infants is at risk from undiagnosed eye and vision problems, which, if undetected, can lead to permanent vision impairments, developmental delays and in rare cases, life-threatening health risks. However, only 14 percent of children from infancy to age six have had a comprehensive eye assessment from an eye care professional.
This effort is part of a year-round, national public health program called InfantSEE, offered by Optometry Cares — The AOA Foundation and Vistakon, Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc.
