BUCKSPORT, Maine — Local police arrested a 27-year-old man late last week on a warrant from Connecticut for apparently failing to comply with that state’s sex offender registration requirements.
Ryan Bucchieri was convicted in Connecticut of felony sexual assault as well as felony sexual assault of a minor back in July 2003, according to information on Connecticut’s state sex offender registry.
Sgt. David Winchester with the Bucksport Police Department said a detective from Enfield, Conn., notified his agency that Bucchieri might be in Bucksport. Winchester said Bucchieri appears to have been living in town for several months.
Bucchieri was arrested Friday evening on a warrant from Connecticut for failure to update his sex offender registration with that state. Bucchieri was being held at the Hancock County Jail.
Bucchieri also could face charges in this state. Maine law requires anyone who is legally required to participate in another state’s sex offender registry to notify local police within 24 hours of establishing residency here and to register with the Maine Department of Public Safety within five days. Maine’s sex offender registry contained no information on Bucchieri.
