SOUTH ADDISON – Ruth H. Burgess, 81, died peacefully, Jan. 6, 2012, at Down East Community Hospital. She was born March 2, 1930, in Karlsruhe, Germany, to Emil and Bertha Walther.

Her greatest joy in her life was her family. She was well known in the community for her hand knit socks, homemade doughnuts, jellies and other canned goods, as well as her generosity to others. She was a member of Cherryfield Post No. 8 Ladies Auxiliary, where she enjoyed playing Beano. She enjoyed shopping and family get-togethers. She was very proud of her German heritage and made frequent family visits to Germany.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Mariner Burgess of South Addison; three daughters, Ellen “Gabbie” Gray and husband, Edwin, of Auburn, Audrey Tyler and husband, Evans, of South Addison and Heidi Harrington and husband, Ronnie, of Steuben; grandchildren, Jeffrey and Jamie Gray, Jason and Holly Tyler, Jeremy and Kim Tyler, Joell Tucker, Jenay Tucker and fiance, Trevor Renwick, and Jessica Harrington; and great-grandchildren, Hazel and Luella and their mother, Sarah Tucker, Wyliam Renwick and Kayden Tyler. She will be remembered by many special friends.

A celebration of her life will be held 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Union Church Annex, South Addison. Private burial will be in the spring with Elder Gail Bucknam officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sunrise Home Health, 11 Broadway, Machias, ME 04654.
