WATERVILLE, Maine — Dive teams will search bodies of water on Wednesday as the hunt for 20-month-old Ayla Reynolds continues, according to the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Divers with the Maine Warden Service and Maine State Police will join other Waterville area operations. According to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, the locations of the dives will be announced on Wednesday and an update likely will be provided in the afternoon.
Multiple agencies have been involved in the search for Ayla, who was reported missing by her father, Justin DiPietro, on Dec. 17. A $30,000 reward has been offered for information on her whereabouts.
Ayla’s mother, Trista Reynolds, said Tuesday on NBC’s “Today” show that she still isn’t getting “the whole truth” about what happened in DiPietro’s Waterville home on the night Ayla Reynolds went missing.
Reynolds criticized DiPietro for refusing to speak to her after Ayla’s disappearance. She said Tuesday that they have now spoken, but she still wonders why he waited more than two weeks to make a public appearance to appeal for the return of their daughter.
Reynolds has made several television appearances since her daughter went missing.
DiPietro, who made a public statement on Dec. 28 seeking Ayla’s return, recently explained the circumstances around his daughter’s broken arm and invited TV host Nancy Grace to spend the day with him “to see what I’m going through.”
DiPietro told police that he last saw Ayla when he put her to bed the night of Dec. 16, and she was gone in the morning. Police have declared her disappearance a crime.
Anyone with information is asked to call Waterville police at 680-4700 or Maine State Police in Augusta at 624-7076.

Wow… they must have had enuff evidence to go diving
Can’t wait to hear how the peanut gallery tries to come up with crazy scenarios that would tie the mother to being the reason they’re making those searches.
Sadness.
To say the least, yes. :(
There are unused resources in Bangor ( deemi.org) that have found the little girl on tinker dam after the official search was over, applying high tech high resolution imagery .. why not use that resource? I think in a situation like this all hands on deck is a good idea-.. if you’re still in search mode .. -why not use the resources that find the lost? The resources in Maine have not been fully used ..low utilization on a major case.
They found her but the police are still looking for her? What am I missing?
I went to the website. This looks like an incredible and effective resource. I hope they will be able to help.
They found a different little girl a few years ago.
Tinker Dam is located in Aroostook County. I believe it was another body that they found there, not the little girl, she is still missing.
Thank you for clarifying. I guess when anyone refers to “the little girl” I only think of little Ayla right now. It’s heartbreaking knowing that there are other children and families suffering.
Well,yeah,good question-why haven’t those resources been used??
Not to jump to conclusions but this is not good news for Baby Ayla. Pray!
Yes True, Dive teams are costly to say the least so if they have decided that this is the next step then they must have probable cause to take this step, very sad indeed.
I have remained optimistic throughout this whole case, but am starting to lose my optimism as each day goes by and as each of these reports seem to focus more on body recovery :( I hope they get some answers soon and am still going to hold out what little hope I have that this little girl is okay :( Very sad situation.
The mother seems to be spending her 15 min making snide remarks about the father. no wonder he wouldnt talk to her. It was probably the reason he had little to do with the baby before mom went into rehab. She dosent seem to be an easy person to deal with.
That and the police told them not to speak publicly, in case of revealing details that could be used to sort through the tips coming in. With the mother on tv every chance she gets, I wouldn’t have talked with her either.
I’d be saying worse things that she is about him if my child was missing while under his care and he didn’t call to let me know. I can’t imagine any mother who wouldn’t be ripping him apart in this situation.
So would I. It just must be her elevated classiness that keeps her from being slanderous and defamatory huh?
Nice…Very Classy and sophisticated on your part…you should be proud!
But she still didn’t lose or hurt her daughter like the father did.
….
Shouldn’t this have been done a week or 2 ago? So sad.
Yup…
I’m still hoping one of the parents has taken and stashed little Ayla to avoid custody suits. That’s the only scenario with a good outcome. All the others end the same way.
I know neither of the parties. But 1. the father slipped on the ice and fell on her because he was holding her so the arm is not a n abuse issue. The issue is the grandmother lived in the house and she didn’t realize this child was missing either? Another puzzling thing is he didn’t check on a 20 month old until 8:30 in the morning? Come on what 20 month old sits in their crib quietly until that time? I have two children and at that age they were both babbling or calling their father and I’s name to check on them. Dirty diapers need to be changed before then too!
I disagree…There have been many many times I’ve had to wake up my 3 year old at 10am because I had been up for hours before him. Not every child wakes up at the butt crack of dawn and that is no reason to point fingers. All of these boards disgust me. Let the police do their jobs. The more rumors that are spread the more information the police have to look into, the less time they have chasing real leads. Why can’t people just understand that? You’re all wasting precious minutes of this little girl’s life by leading the police in false directions because you have “suspicions” based on what you’ve heard on the news. The fact is that NONE of us really know what happened except for the terrible people/person who did this and the more people talk crap about the family the harder it is to pinpoint what really happened. I think it’s hard enough on the parents to not know where their baby is, let alone seeing all of you people talking crap about them. It’s no wonder the father didn’t want to make any public appearances you all jump to conclusions so quickly based on physical appearances and what you hear on these blogs and threads. Sure it hits close to home, as I said earlier I have a 3 year old and
this tugs at my heart to hear what this family is going through, I
couldn’t even imagine life without my son. However, I also know that if I was in this family’s shoes I would not appreciate all that’s being said. Express your remorse, but other than that the police are sick of people starting rumors, and I’m sure the family feels the same way. Have some respect and decency for the people who are going through this predicament. Until you’ve been in their situation you have no place to judge.
I don’t know who is guilty and who isn’t but if this lovely little girl is harmed and they find the person responsible, they should not waist our tax dollars on them. Inject them and get it over with fast!!
I don’t feel sorry for the mother or the father. this is exactly what happens when you choose a path in life that involves DRUGS. I’m sick of people having kids when they have all of these horrible addictions and ill minds. If you are that messed up, do the world a favor and DON’T REPRODUCE. How about that? These poor children are innocent and they are all the victims of a bunch of low-lifes who have nothing better to do with their time than get high and numb. I’m SICK OF IT!
McCausland says in the latest article in the Portland Press Herald “They are encouraging all family members both here in Waterville and Southern Maine to keep her story in the forefront and to keep her name in the headlines.” He also says to use the media in order to keep tips coming in.
I wonder if Justin and grammy were telling another “fib”. They both said the police told them not to talk. Now McCausland is refuting that — I think he’s put it out there so that they know they’ve been called out on that lie. Didn’t make any sense that they were told not to talk — that’s how information is gained. I’m sure they didn’t want to talk–everytime they talk they lie and they probably know their words will trap them.
