STOCKHOLM – Alfred Joseph Thibodeau, 86, died Jan. 11, 2012, in Presque Isle. He was born Dec. 14, 1925, in Stockholm, son of the late Fred and Leopauldine (Bossie) Thibodeau.

Mr. Thibodeau served with the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was a part of the occupational troop in Japan, as well as a combat veteran of the Philippines. A lifelong resident of Stockholm, he was a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church and was also a member of Perkins Plourde Post 136 American Legion. Mr. Thibodeau was employed as a trackman for Bangor and Aroostook Railroad for many years. He married Irene Rossignol and she predeceased him in 1986.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Lloyd Woods of Stockholm; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mack and Karen Thibodeau of Rosepine, La., and Joe and Lisa Thibodeau of Stockholm; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mr. Thibodeau was predeceased by two brothers, Albert and Eddie Plourde; sister, Rachael Marquis; and a special friend, Florence Cyr.

Friends may visit with the family 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, where evening prayer services will be held 7:30 p.m. A memorial Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, with Father Clement Thibodeau officiating. Interment will be in the spring at St. Theresa’s Cemetery. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Mr. Thibodeau may do so through the Maine Veterans Home Memorial Fund, Caribou.
