GUILFORD – Family and friends share the loss of Jean Bigelow (Libby) Haley. Jean was born June 21, 1921, at 155 Auburn St., Cambridge, Mass., the second daughter of James Gray Libby and Amy Bigelow Libby, and the sister to Josephine Gray Libby Wakefield.
Jean entered eternal life Jan. 10, 2012, at home in Boylston, Mass. Jean married her husband of 54 years, George Emery Haley, March 21, 1940.
Jean is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Kathleen Haley of Cherry Valley, Mass.; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and William Richardson of Boylston, Mass.; grandchildren, Heatherlyn Haley, Hilarie Haley, Heidi Haley Young and Steven Haley; second generation grandchildren, Alisha Young Zimmerman, Jacob Young and Bridget, Edward, Madeline, Brooke, and Fiona Haley; third generation grandsons, Zachary and Zander Zimmerman; one sister-in-law, many dear nieces and nephews.
Jean lived her teen years in Billerica, Mass., and with her husband, George, lived in Lowell, Mass., Guilford, Worcester, Mass., Kulpmont, Pa., and moved to Boylston, Mass., after George’s passing to live near her children. Jean was known for her loving nature, generous hospitality and optimistic energy. She enjoyed a wonderful network of family and friends in her beloved town of Guilford, and in the central Massachusetts area.
She was famous for her baked fruit pies and making berry preserves. Many organizations benefited from her endless capacity to give. She enjoyed sewing, baking, gardening, crocheting, oil painting, solving crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble, and tending to the needs of her cats throughout the years.
A funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Crosby & Neal, 21 Oak St., Guilford, with Pastor Stephen Dean officiating. Friends may call 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Spring interment will be at Lawn Cemetery, Guilford.
