BANGOR and WINSLOW – Robert Emile Gilbert, 32, went to be with the Lord Jan. 10, 2012, after a brave and courageous battle with heart disease. He was born June 13, 1979, in Waterville, son of James and Rosemarie (Lake) Gilbert.
Robert was a 1997 graduate of Winslow High School. He was well known in sports for his wrestling, football and karate. After graduating high school he served six years in the U.S. Army. Robert worked as a refrigeration/heating and air conditioning technician while in the military. After returning from his tour of duty in Germany, Robert went to Eastern Maine Community College where he met and married his wife. Robert was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. He had an avid love for camping, fishing and hunting. He spent many summers with his family on their land, fishing, hunting and camping.
In addition to his parents, Robert is survived by his wife, Jessica; son, Elijah; brothers, Matthew, and Jason and his wife, Penny, and their daughter, Jazimine; grandmother, Jean Gilbert; father-in-law, Mark Gilbert and his wife, Sherry; mother-in-law, Laurie Robertson and her significant other, Lew McEacharn; brother-in-law, Christopher Gilbert and his significant other, Sarah Fratini; numerous other special friends, aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as his church family.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 1195 Stetson Road, Exeter, with Pastor Stan Griffin officiating. Friends are invited to call 1 p.m. until the time of service. After the service relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments at the church. A private interment will be held at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
