PUNTA GORDA, Fla. – Shirley M. (Snow) McKenney, 80, passed away Jan. 8, 2012, in Florida. She was born Oct. 14, 1931, in Old Town, a daughter of Phillip W. and Vera (White) Snow.
Shirley enjoyed being active in her community and was a hospital volunteer in Lewisburg, Pa., was a soloist with Daughters of Isabella, and was a pageant coach for Miss Maine for the Miss America Organization. Shirley moved to Punta Gorda, Fla., in 1992 and was a member of Punta Gorda Isles Yacht Club and enjoyed playing bridge there. Shirley loved dogs, especially her “granddogs.” Shirley will be best remembered as a homemaker whose greatest joy was spending time with her family. She dated Jaye A. McKenney for five years before they wed and they were married for 59 years.
She is survived by her husband, Jaye; two daughters, Mary (McKenney) Briggs and Cheryl McKenney; two sons, Tim McKenney and his wife, Lynne, and Andy McKenney and his wife, Tammy; four grandchildren, Kristen, Ashlynde, Scott and Heather, Tim and Becky; and brother, Ralph “Buzzy” Snow and his wife, Joan.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday at Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord, Holy Family Church, 429 Main St., Old Town. Friends may call 10 a.m. until time of departure to the church at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town.
