MILLINOCKET – Joseph W. “Walt” Landry, 75, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2012. He was born April 15, 1936, in Fort Kent, the son of Charles and Dora (Desjardines) Landry.
Walt was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was employed as a machinist at Great Northern Paper Co. for 46 years, as a master machinist. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, playing cards and time spent at his trailer at Sourdehunk. Walt also enjoyed karate, as well as running. He was a life member of Elks Lodge No. 1521 in Millinocket, and St. Martin’s Council No. 680, Knights of Columbus, where he was a fourth degree Knight.
Walt is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rena (Skinner) Landry of Millinocket; a son, Joseph W. Landry Jr. and his wife, Charlene, of Virginia; a daughter, Laurie LaPlante and her husband, Wade, of Millinocket; five grandchildren, Tia Burbe of Connecticut, Charles Landry of Virginia, William Landry of Virginia, Joseph Wiley of Millinocket and Leonard Wiley of Millinocket; two sisters, Loretta Jene Nicholson and her husband, Neil, of East Millinocket and Norma Barnecut of California; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a brother, Cary Landry; and a sister, Gilda Vienneau.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 8:30-9:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Martin of Tours of Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, 19 Colby St., Millinocket, with Deacon Danny Watson, presider.
