DIXMONT and BANGOR – Clara Adelle Walton, 90, passed away peacefully Jan. 15, 2012, at a Bangor health care facility. Clara was born April 17, 1921, in Dixmont, daughter of the late Hervey B. and Lillian (Grant) Cottrell.

Clara grew up and lived in Dixmont most of her life. In her later years she moved to Unity. She worked for many years with her husband on their poultry farm before becoming a personal care attendant. She was an active 50-year member of Dixmont and Clinton Grange, a Dixmont 4-H Club leader for many years, a member of Unity Senior Citizens club and a member of Church of Christ, Unity. Clara will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Clara is survived by her children, Robert W. Walton and wife, Mary, of Montpelier, Vt., and Sandra (Walton) Pierce and husband, Skip, of Lowell; brothers, Hervey E. Cottrell and Woodrow W. Cottrell, all of Dixmont; grandchildren, Joshua, Joel and Justin Walton; a great-grandson, Ashton Walton; special children whom she thought of as her own, Alan and April Orcutt; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Clara was predeceased by her husband, Donald Q. Walton; her brother, Melvin Murphy; sister, Mary Waning; sister-in-law, Evelyn Cotrell; and nephews, Mellie, Raymond and Richard. The family thanks the Maine Veterans Home, Bangor, B Unit staff for all of their care and compassion during Clara’s stay.

Family and friends may visit 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. Interment will be beside her husband in the spring at Simpsons Corner Cemetery, Dixmont.
