BUCKSPORT – Philip A Rosen, 55, died peacefully Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, with friends and family at his side, at a Bangor hospital. Phil was born in Castine, the third son of Lawrence and Lillian (Meade) Rosen of Bucksport.

Phil was ship’s captain of The Windhorse, the 38′ commercial charter boat he designed and operated out of Belfast Harbor. He was an accomplished commercial diver, scallop diver, underwater photographer and adventurer. Phil sought excellence in every interest he pursued. He was a talented potter, operating his own kiln. He designed and hand built his post and beam home. When he flew he enjoyed piloting the plane and held his instrument and float ratings.

Phil is survived by his companion, Terri Hallowell; his brother, Michael Rosen and wife, Karla, of Syracuse, N.Y.; brother, Richard Rosen and wife, Kimberley, of Bucksport; nephews, Seth Rosen and spouse, Dr. Jacob Goertz, of New York City, David Rosen and girlfriend, Christine Bratcher, of Ellsworth; nieces, Rachael Rosen and fiance, Chris Barrow, of Williamsburg, Va., Lilly Sochan-Rosen of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; many cousins and friends. Phil is also survived by his lifelong friends, Bill and Marlene Whitcomb. Phil will be remembered for his generous spirit, his irreverent sense of humor and many good and generous deeds. He has been described by some as a seeker of truth. May he now be tranquil and at peace.
