PORTLAND, Maine — Nearly 50 restaurants have signed up so far to take part in the fourth annual Maine Restaurant Week to celebrate the state’s food scene.
Organizers say Maine Restaurant Week is scheduled for March 1-10, with participating eateries offering three-course dinners in the $20 to $40 range per person, and some offering three-course lunches for $15.
The week will be kicked off on the night of Feb. 29 with an event at the Portland Harbor Hotel featuring a competition for best cocktail and best dessert that people can sample and vote on.
Another highlight takes place March 9 when restaurants compete in a breakfast cook-off at the Sea Dog Brewing Co. in South Portland.

My 84 year old father was in Bangor, to see a heart specialist of course. he had his coupon book from MPBN offering half price meals for the listed establishments. He offered the card and the book up to the waitress who acted as though she had never seen either before. She wandered off for a moment and when she came back she told me that the restaurant was under NEW ownership and that they weren’t accepting what the PRIOR OWNERS had offered under the SAME NAME. Really, an 84 year old man looking for a whole ten dollars off of a meal???

I’ll never eat at the MUDDY RUDDER again.. ya get that???? THE MUDDY RUDDER IS NO friend to the community. By all means defend them if you wish but this happened and I have no respect for the owners.

This article is always published at this time of year, and there is virtually no participation by local restaurants. The only local restaureant is the Sea Dog. Personally, I don’t see the relevance of the article.
I also was also thinking that the restaurant participation in this event was pretty minimal. There are many locations around the country that celebrate Restaurant Week and the events are incredibly successful. Is this an instance of our “independent” Mainer’s streak that as often as not is counterproductive?
Don’t forget, Quasi, the BDN is now catering to the Portland crowd. This is a non-article to those who live in the Real Maine, above the Yuppie Line!
