AUGUSTA, Maine — The average price for home heating oil in Maine remains unchanged from a week ago even after some cold temperatures across the state.
A weekly survey shows an average price of $3.70 per gallon.
Ken Fletcher, director of the Governor’s Office of Energy Independence and Security, said it appears that foreign demand for diesel fuel may be keeping prices higher than they would be otherwise, even as people look to natural gas or firewood to lower their energy costs.
Around the state, prices ranged from a low of $3.47 in western Maine to a high of $4.01 in the central part of the state.
$3.70 x 250 gal = $925 to fill an empty tank. Keeping my t-stat set at 65 this would last me about 5 weeks. Glad I bought a pellet stove, since no lawmaker in this Country wants to put control on the oil companies. Might lower their campaign donations
They don’t want real solutions either, they like giving our money to the middle east and to Venezuela. Most of them probably receive kickbacks from those countries.
You are exactly right, and those of us in the most depressed parts of the state who make far too much to qualify for assistance but not enough to put in a pellet or wood furnace are having to pay $850 a month in oil, and it hasn’t even been cold! Then we sit there thinking about building a smaller house but would have to sell the larger one first and you’re left with the bleakness of the housing market and ridiculous lending regulations put in place against the self employed, combine them and you’re left with absolutely no options to save money.
The country had a chance to put thousands of people to work and to import oil from Canada at presumably lower prices and Obama said “no” to the pipeline. He was concerned that some oil might get out of the pipeline and perhaps kill a frog or two. He is the wrong man at the absolute wrong time and he needs to go.
3.70 a gallon and somehow i just can not afford any..do you think our leader is ever cold. do you think he really cares if anybody is cold. our government is full of losers and thieves. sorry i know we all know this already
