LIBERTY – Esther Louise (Spencer) Dam died peacefully Jan. 21, 2012, with her family around her.
A veteran of the Vietnam War, she was known for her loving and kind spirit, and her desire and ability to stand up for what was right. Esther loved her family and continued to take care of them with her actions even when she could no longer communicate with words. She will be missed dearly by everyone that ever had the chance to meet her and the world will miss her laughter. She was a life member of Arbutus Chapter No. 19, Order of the Eastern Star, where she held numerous offices, including past worthy matron and was honored to be selected as district deputy grand matron of District No. 12 for the past two years.
She was predeceased by her parents, George A. Spencer and Amy C. (Carter)Spencer; and a grandson. Esther is survived by her husband, Rexford Dam; children, Kimberly Spencer of Fort Collins, Colo., Jessica A. Briggs and Daniel of Old Town, and Brandie Cardenas and Juan of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; grandchildren, Kendra Layne, Tatiyanna Spencer, Brian Welch, Elyannah and Noah Briggs; her brother, George “Albert” Spencer and Linda of Phoenix; sister, Leona Billing and Pete of Palermo; brother, Chuck of Walter, Okla., and Nina of Knox; brother, Ken Spencer and Wilma of Tabernacle, N.J.; nieces and nephews, Leeann Mosley of Gardiner, Wilson Spencer of New Hampshire, Mistayn Tibbett and Clayton of Thorndike, Scott Spencer of Knox, and Wyatt Spencer and Mariah of Beeville, Texas; great-nieces and great-nephews, Brooke, Michael, Oliver, Ailiayn and Eben; and great-great-niece, DeYanna. Her family extends a heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Togus Veterans Affairs Hospice Unit for their wonderful and compassionate care of Esther during her last days.
