OLD TOWN – O’Connell “Skip” A. LaMountain, 76, passed away Jan. 23, 2012, at the Maine Veterans Home, Bangor. He was born June 27, 1935, in Keeseville, N.Y., a son of the late Alfred and Margaret (O’Connell) LaMountain.
Skip served proudly in the U.S. Navy. He moved to Terryville, Conn., at a young age where he lived until he moved to Maine in the 1970s. Skip loved to visit and spend time with his beloved sister, Jane, and they would spend hours laughing and telling stories about all of the things they did as children. Skip loved hunting with “Dad,” his longtime friend and father-in-law. He enjoyed playing golf and had many golf adventures with family and friends. Skip enjoyed many years of camping fun with family and friends. He also loved to mow the lawn and was given the nickname of “mowing man” from his wife and sons. He spent many years attending University of Maine hockey games and loved to collect hockey pucks. He will always be known for his easy going, friendly and warm personality.
Skip is survived by his wife of 27 years, Rosemary LaMountain of Old Town; his five children, Jamey Shorey and fiancee, Elisha Leeman, of Ellsworth, Scott Shorey and wife, Julie, of Chehalis, Wash., Allen LaMountain of Tennessee, Donna Christopher of Connectcut and Michael LaMountain of Connecticut; his grandchildren, MaKayla, Camron, Kerrigan, Hunter and Beau Shorey, and Glen Kennedy, Michelle LaMountain, Alex LaMountain, Michael LaMountain, Derrick LaMountain, Sarah Lott and Andrew LaMountain; his sister, Jane Corrow of Bristol, Conn.; mother-in-law, Dorothy McLaughlin of Old Town; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Audrey LaMountain; sister, Patricia Lafleur; and father-in-law, George McLaughlin.
Friends may call 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where a funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Spring interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Old Town.
