SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Patricia “Patsy” O’Connor, 76, formerly of Taunton, N.Y., passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, at her daughter’s home in Maine. She was born in St. Paul, Minn., to William L. and Elizabeth G. McGrath.
She was a graduate of the Convent School and Katherine Gibbs School, Boston. Patsy worked at Syracuse China for a number of years. In 1970 her husband founded Charles V. O’Connor Insurance Agency and they worked side by side until his retirement in 1993. She also did bookkeeping for Most Holy Rosary and St. Lucy’s churches. She was an active member of St. Ann’s Church community, proudly serving as the choir director for many years as well as being a member of the Altar Rosary Society and working on many committees and projects for the church.
Patsy is survived by her children, Ann O’Connor of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Matthew and his wife, Theresa O’Connor, of Syracuse, N.Y., Mary O’Connor of Liverpool, N.Y., and Nancy O’Connor of Bangor; grandchildren, Margaret Carcaterra and Timothy, James and Patrick O’Connor; two sisters, Kathleen and James Kelly, and Nancy McGrath; sisters-in-law, Pam and Bob Heneghan, Mary Lou and Andrew Katko, Maureen and Charles Gridley and Donna and Carmen Parenti; as well as many nieces and nephews. Patsy was predeceased by her husband, Charles O’Connor; brother, William L. McGrath Jr.; as well as her parents.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Ann’s Church, 4471 Onondaga Blvd., Syracuse, N.Y. Burial will be afterward at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dewitt, N.Y. Calling hours will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at Tindall Funeral Home, 1921 W. Genesee St., Syracuse, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Patsy O’Connor may be made to Guardian Angel Society, 259 E. Onondaga St., Syracuse, NY 13202; New Hope Hospice, 1344 Main Road, Eddington, ME 04428; or a charity of one’s choice.
