PLYMOUTH – Robert F. Dow, 68, passed away Jan. 25, 2012, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Sept. 21, 1943, in Melrose, Mass., a son of Harold and Irma (Kimball) Dow.

He graduated from Tewksbury High, class of 1961, where he played football, and from Stockbridge School of Agriculture at the University of Massachusetts, class of 1963. He was a former resident of Billerica, Mass., for more than 30 years before moving to Maine. He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. Robert drove racecars at Hudson, N.H., and Pines Speedway in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He was past chief of the Independent Order of Vikings, Edmund Lodge No. 91, Woburn, Mass., a former firefighter at Boston Housing, was an Eagle Scout and a Cub Master. He had been employed as a welder, a truck driver and had owned his own cleaning business.

He is survived by his wife, Vivi-Ann Dow of Plymouth; two sons, Lance Dow of Billerica, Mass., and Erik and his wife, Heather Dow, of Plymouth; four grandchildren, Aiden, Bennett, Jacob and Anna Grace, all of Plymouth; an uncle, George Dow Sr. of Middleton, Mass.; and cousins, George Dow Jr. and Peter Whitney, both of Georgetown, Mass., and Daneell Bourque of Middleton, Mass. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Sandra Niemand.
