BREWER, Maine — When Brewer police Officer Kristie Bouchard approached an intoxicated Brewer man at his home Wednesday, he instantly became aggressive and was arrested after threatening her, Lt. Chris Martin said Friday.
“Right from the initial encounter … he threatened her,” the lieutenant said.
Bouchard went to Jeffrey Crawford’s residence on North Main Street at about 1:35 p.m. Wednesday to issue him a harassment warning on behalf of Maine State Police.
Crawford advanced on the officer “and she had to push him away,” Martin said.
Crawford then threatened “to shoot Officer Bouchard and her police vehicle,” the lieutenant added. “Crawford stated that he would take Officer Bouchard’s gun and shoot her and also threatened to go into his residence to obtain his gun to shoot her.”
Crawford, 53, who was very intoxicated, Martin said, was taken down and then placed into custody by Bouchard, Cpl. Steve Boyd and Officer Rodney Gerald. He was arrested and charged with criminal threatening, then taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center for minor cuts from the scuffle with police. Crawford was taken to Penobscot County Jail in Bangor and was scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
“This is not the first time we’ve had encounters with him,” Martin said. “This has happened before.”

….
no offense toward female police officers, but if you have a grown male, thats known to be agressive towards officers, why would you send a single female police officer to serve anything??… seems like someone dropped the ball on this one….
I agree, and she was sent there “to issue him a harassment warning on behalf of Maine State Police”. Why can’t the troopers handle their own warnings, they’re in Brewer all the time. Is it possible that Officer Bouchard was set up by her fellow male officers?
The majority of police officers would NEVER set up a fellow officer. I can’t believe you would even say that. It insults the integrity of every officer. Do us all a favor, go back to your cave, troll.
I doubt that this “gentlemen” would have reacted in any diffrent manner to a male officer. We never hear about the hundreds of calls made by male and female officers that go just fine. Chris Martin wouldn’t insult officer Bouchard by suggesting that a male officer be sent in her stead. If she couldn’t do the job, she wouldn’t be there. What happened there, could happen at any time -anywhere-without any prior knowledge of the situation.
Should always send 2 officers to handle a known risk, and the female, Bouchard, was the only one who was threatened, so its like they sent her knowing how he would respond to a female and just wanted to levy more charges. TWO ‘other’ officers were the ones who took him into custody, so from the way this is worded it seems as she wasnt able to handle this guy on her own.

“Crawford, 53, who was very intoxicated, Martin said, was taken down and then placed into custody by Bouchard, Cpl. Steve Boyd and Officer Rodney Gerald.”…. throws your statements right down the drain huh?? she most certainly did par-take in the arrest, and she defended her self as well
The article says he was placed into custody by 3 officers. It does not state that 3 officers took him down. Why does everyone just assume that because she is a female that she can’t handle the job? That is so sexist.
female or not, sending one officer to take care of someone known to get violent was a dumb move
umm.. before you put words in my mouth, all i said was the female officer shouldn’t have responded by her self to a suspect thats known to harrass and be aggressive towards the police, NEVER once said she couldn’t handle or do her job. thanks.
Re read the headline , sexist from the start ! Sells papers though.
Why does BDN put her sex in headline? Is it relevant?
I was thinking the same thing. She is a police officer regardless of her sex. I am sure she is just as capable as any other officer in the department.
another smart one. shouldn’t matter who you send to a call. don’t be a drunken fool and think your bullet proof. be a happy drunk :)
why doesn’t someone blame the fool that was arrested lol . sick of these drunk fools who think there all that and a big mac when they get drunk. a good right cross to the chin would fix him real quick.
i would LOVE for you to come to brewer and test your belief system out.
Please Judge!, I was drunk, I did not mean I would shoot her and her car, it was the beer talking, you know I only make threats when I’m drunk! So please judge don’t send me to jail, after all I can’t get drunk in jail as I do n the streets!
I’d like to see those minor cuts from the scuffle lol I’ve never landed myself in the hospital from minor cuts haha
wow… your complete ignorance is unwelcome in the civilized conversation, and honestly it’s people like you that bring out the evil in this world…… i’ll bet an entire months of my pay check i know then women that could wipe the floor clean with you. put your money where your mouth is…2nd, im a male and i’d rather deal with a male cop ANY day of the week. female cops know anatomy ALOT more then their male co-workers =X
Ricker should be ashamed of this type of reporting style!
Try re-reading it and suddenly you realize how much was left out to make the the story fit the headline. The shortened (and likely out of context) quote from the lieutenant: no info on if the other 2 officers were already there with Officer Bouchard or if she called for back up. I think most people after reading this are picturing this guy assaulting her and the other two officers swooping in to save her. I’m thinking that this wasn’t the case. Officers have backup come (male or female) all of the time to help out in stickier situations, but becuase she is female if she calls in for back up it could only be because she is weak? Look at all of the drunken arrest cases these past few months, typically it takes more than one officer.
Officer Bouchard, I would like to thank you for your service.
