JAY, Maine — Handguns, rifles, shotguns and muzzle-loaders were among the 24 guns stolen from a house on Walker Hill Road, police said.
The guns were valued at $10,000.
A laptop and a chain saw also were taken, Detective Richard Caton IV said.
The thief or thieves forced their way into the house off Route 17 in the north part of town, sometime between 5:30 p.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. Friday, Caton said. He did not know whether ammunition was taken.
Police have some leads, he said. Anyone with information can call the Jay Police Department at 897-6766.

All those guns didn’t protect the home from a break-in. Some laptops can be traced by GPS, can’t they? I hope that the authorities can trace the stolen items and get them all back to the owner.
I hear ya..you cant get away with stolen guns…very traceable ..stupid is what stupid does.
Whoever stole all these items must have been well acquainted with the owner of the guns etc.
A good many Mainers make it easy for thieves to recognize properties that probably house guns of some sort. From NRA stickers to gun racks in our pick ups-we’re advertisng our merchandise. A “real” burglar that sees these clues goes somewhere else out of fear of being shot by the homeowner.The guy on bath salts or drugs of some sort knocks the door down as he’s just that desparate. Thieves hate dogs; a “beware of the dog” sign and a dish outside the door will scare off most of them.
Buy a PREMIUM quality gun safe! Duh!
Pretty simple huh. 1/7/2012 , Lebanon, Me.. 8 guns, 2500 rounds of ammo, 2 laptop computers, military items, jewelry and other personal stuff stolen from home. All this was in a 18 gun Stack-on safe. That’s right, they took safe and all!
You said it all STACK-ON….el-cheapo safe! If you get a GOOD ONE THAT WEIGHS 1000 POUNDS EMPTY (Browning or Liberty) & BOLT IT DOWN. Ain’t nobody gonna get that unless there is 3 of them & they are crazy. I wouldn’t take STACK -ON if it was FREE. PURE JUNK!!!!!
Well excuse me , but maybe everyone can’t afford a Browning or Liberty as you obviously can. Afterall a Stack-on is only fire retardent to 1400 degrees and only weighs 500#. I can tell you this though, I’ll take a free one anytime.
If U can afford to own 24 guns U can afford a PREMIUM quality gun safe! Sell a couple guns….buy the safe! It’s just common sense but then again I don’t see much of it on here anyway.
