AUGUSTA, Maine — Gov. Paul LePage met briefly with Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul on Friday in the midst of the White House hopeful’s two-day campaign swing through Maine.

Adrienne Bennett, spokeswoman for LePage, said the roughly 30-minute meeting took place in the governor’s State House office about 4 p.m. Friday. Paul was in between a 2 p.m. event in nearby Waterville — the town where LePage served as mayor before being elected governor — and an evening event in Lewiston, which is the governor’s hometown.

Bennett said she was not present at the time and was not familiar with what the two men discussed. But she said LePage reached out to Paul “as a courtesy” to supporters of the governor who had urged him to contact the congressman during his visit to Maine.

“It was a meet-and-greet,” Bennett said. “The governor was asked by supporters to meet with Ron Paul.”

Jesse Benton, Paul’s campaign manager, told CNN that the meeting went well. LePage, an unabashed conservative with strong ties to business, has yet to endorse anyone in the race for the GOP presidential nomination.

Paul, 76, is a congressman from Texas who has developed an enthusiastic following for his staunchly libertarian viewpoints and his constant emphasis on the perceived loss of personal freedom in the era of “big government.”

He is the first serious presidential hopeful to visit Maine this year, kicking off his two-day tour with an event in Bangor. On Saturday, the congressman was expected to hold events in Gorham and Freeport before wrapping up his visit with a 5 p.m. stop in Alfred.

Paul has yet to win a primary and consistently polls behind the three other GOP contenders: former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum. But Paul is hoping to pick up some of Maine’s 24 delegates because, unlike in other states with winner-takes-all systems, delegates in Maine can be divided among candidates.

Although often popular among college-age students, Paul drew sizable crowds of people of all ages to his events in Maine — so sizable, in fact, that the hotel conference room where he spoke in Lewiston in Friday night had to be expanded to accommodate the crowd, according to news reports.

Paul also enjoys strong support among constitutionalists and some members of the tea party movement, a group credited with helping LePage win the Blaine House in November 2010.

  1. Ron Paul is nothing but a fringe candidate and he is not going to be president. Ever!

There has never been a libertarian government anywhere on earth and never will be. That fact speaks volumes. He makes great talking points, but what he proposes would destroy the country. That’s all he offers.

    1. You have no knowledge of history or of political philosophy,  Ireland was a libertarian nation for over 1000 years.  The United States in it’s early history (while not perfectly libertarian) proved that expanding political power to the people and providing a system for equality under the law based upon respect for individual rights leads to the greatest amount of prosperity for all.

But go ahead and vote for Mitt since he’s telling you exactly what we want to hear, that we only need to have more “R”s in office.

      1. Ireland was never a libertarian nation.  It was an island that was inhabited by several different tribes with Celtic heritage.  Each tribe had their own laws and way of life where everyone worked for the betterment of the tribe just like primative tribes do to this day.  There was no ‘I’ll do whatever I want’ attitude in those tribes.

If you want to see what a libertarian country would look like, take a look at Somalia and Afganistan.  Those countries are the closest you will come to a libertarian government.

      2. The United States in its early history hung people for being witches. Then we had a war over slavery. Lynched people. Power to the people, indeed. The Wild West was libertarian, it resulted in a lot of people being killed.

And I’d vote for Newt over Mitt, Mitt speaks more to my politics (compromise is good) but you also never know what you’re going to get with him… at least I know Newt stands firmly in one corner: his own.

        1. I must say neither you nor pbmann have the faintest idea what a libertarian form of government looks like—come on…Somalia andAfganistan are “libertarian countries”?!?!?  You guys really ARE brain-dead! eh, I shouldn’t expect anything less from someone who would vote for neo-con Newt…  pathetic…..

          1. ahhh, you DO realize that Somalia has declared their sovereignty and although still a transitional government, it is goverened by a President and Prime Minister.  I think you might have to come up with a better attack than that…please, try again….thank you for coming.

          2. We’re not going to win anyone over to the side of reason, liberty, fiscal sanity and restoring our standing in the world unless we do it Ron Paul’s way – without calling names and attacking.

    2. If there has never been a libertarian government anywhere on earth, how do you know that it would destroy the country? Since you don’t have a failed country to point to as an example, I assume you have some testable hypothesis to demonstrate why it would fail.

(That’s ignoring the fact that when you put two libertarians in a room, you get three opinions on “true” libertarianism. I’m more of a geolibertarian than the Ron Paul variety, but taking the Asch Conformity Experiments as a testable hypothesis, it’s easy to see that Ron Paul has value in the race for the Republican nomination. Even if he is wrong, he breaks up Republican conformity, which allows others the chance to give their honest opinion without the pressure of uniformity.)

    3. During the 19th century, America had a libertarian government. It was called classical liberalism then; the term “liberal” was stolen by FDR & the meaning has changed.

So, yes, “libertarian” governments have existed before, and they have produced unprecedented amounts of liberty, equality and prosperity. It was only when we began to move away from classic liberalism that we began to lose all three of those.

America isn’t the only example, though.

      1. You are spot on with your comment.

And yes, todays liberals have raised stealing the language to an art form.  They must deceive to advance their agenda.

    4. What is a fringe candidate?  Ron Paul is one of two GOP candidates on every primary ballot.  He has come in third and second respectively in the first two states.  If that makes Ron Paul a fringe candidate then what are the candidates who came in behind him and failed to make all of the ballots.  Ron Paul is a paleo-conservative GOP candidate with a consistent record over 12 terms in congress.  He is the only GOP candidate who should not be considered fringe.  Mitt and Newt are big government establishment candidates, just look at their records.  Santorum is an establishment “yes” man.

      1. I totally agree with kape88.

Romney, Gingrich and Santorum are all Big Government political insiders.

Romney…endorsed by other big government insiders and bought by Wall-street…gave us “Romney-care” a mandate for all Massachusetts residents to buy health insurance from corporate insurers or pay a stiff fine to the state of Massachusetts. Tough to take when you are unemployed and having difficulty paying your mortgage… He would have you lose your home because you are mandated by law to give your money to a corporation or to the government. Taxes went up under his administration and Massachusetts was 47th in job creation…He was elected Governor once…and never re-elected!!!

Gingrich…if you look-up egocentric, sociopathic con-man…you will have a good understanding of Newt. He has a few good ideas and he is a good debater. Like any good con artist he gives you a few facts (so you will believe he is telling you the truth about everything) then he appeals to your emotions by asking you to join with him in his narcissistic obsession to become President. Newt is a sanctimonious, chicken-hawk warmonger and if you want to know if you can trust him… ask one of his two previous wives or some of the politicians who threw him out of Congress on ethics violations.

Santorum..big government corrupt politician…big time lobbyist on K Street in Washington D.C….bought and paid for many times over…..In 2005 and 2006 was named by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington as 1 of the 3 most corrupt politicians on the hill…another sanctimonious chicken-hawk warmonger…believes in social, racial and religious profiling, and a few weeks ago he announced during a TV interview that “the states have a right to control contraception”. Lost his last run for the Senate in Pennsylvania…by a landslide!!!

Romney, Gingrich and Santorum can all be bought and they are all ready to start a war with Iran. They do not think twice about sending our sons and daughters into the hell that is war…yet Mitt, Newt and Rick have themselves never spent a day in the military.

Our country is $16,000,000,000,000 in debt…!!! Debt that you and I, the taxpayers of America, are responsible for!!! …We are borrowing money from China to give foreign aid to Pakistan!!!…Our sons and daughters are being killed in Afghanistan while the Chinese have signed contracts for the mining rights there!!!…..Is this sound foreign policy…?????

RON PAUL has been trying to tell us for the past 30 years that our country was heading toward the mess we are now in with unemployment, foreclosures, homelessness, debt…don’t you think it is now time to believe him…before it is too late…??? Ron Paul is the only candidate with a strong  domestic plan…and a sane foreign policy… to get our country back on the right track. Bring our troops home to spend their money in our country… to boost our own economy. Get rid of unnecessary government bureaucracies. Defend Freedom with the strongest military in the world. Have the strongest currency in the world.

Elect a President that the American people and the rest of the world can trust…..!!!

A man of Honor, a Physician and Humanitarian…a Peacemaker…a Statesman with an in-depth knowledge of Economics…a man who is a Staunch Defender of Freedom…

ELECT PRESIDENT RON PAUL 2012!!!!!… for PEACE, PROSPERITY and FREEDOM!!!!!

          1. Me thins YOU need to put down the bong….dude  oh, hey, just for laughs—you could always reiterate “marieaeRN” and “Emilie Resnick” points and produce some facts showing where they are wrong, instead of just posting some useless,  juvenile retorts that make you think you look somewhat intelligent…..

        1. NotWutUthnk… you are the one that needs to get help and stop listening to the media that is bought and paid for by big corporations, they say exactly what they are told, marieaeRN has actually made some very good points, and they are accurate, which is more than the drivel that you have been posting

        2. If you did your homework, you would should have known that Mr. Gingrich was Speaker of the House, as in House of Representatives. He was not a senator or member of the Senate.

      2.   Yeah, 12 years of do nothing in congress except collect a very good paycheck from the working people of this country. It’s a better deal than having to put up with sick patients or insurence forms. Fringe or not, he’s got a good scam going and now his son is in the “Family” biz. as well.

        1. he also never accepted welfare money, but helped plenty of low income patients, he also has always voted no on any budget that wasn’t balanced and he also has stated he won’t take the government retirement (you know, where we pay all ex-congressmen for life, even if they only stayed in 1 term) and has opted out of social security

        2. Yeah, 12 years of do nothing in congress except collect a very good paycheck from the working people of this country. It’s a better deal than having to put up with sick patients or insurence forms. Fringe or not, he’s got a good scam going and now his son is in the “Family” biz. as well.

ahhh, more of your “enlightened”  repertoires…sheesh, you’re worse than the reporter who wrote this piece!  Just fyi, Dr. Paul has returned his Congressional salary every year to the Treasury.  He accepts a small amount of the office budget in order to cover legitimate office expenses.  His son is a practicing Opthamologist (that’s an eye surgeon, just in case you don’t have a dictionary—after all, you can’t seem to do proper research…) and was elected by his constituents…are you normally this obtuse or did it come with as a result of a successful brainwashing?

    5. LOL…the U.S. was a libertarian government once upon a time…what do you think our constitution, rooted in the protection of individual liberties, proposes there genius?

The sheer lack of education and basic understanding of many out there is truly astonishing, especially when becoming educated on such simple matters is only a few clicks away.

    6. Spoken like a true devotee of those who would crush the United States of America or in the alternative a product of public schools in this country or last but not least, dumb as a stone.

      1. JeanClaude1—that “NE_Voter” is right up there with his best bud “keek669″…I don’t think they could come up with half a brain between them!

    7. That depends on what context in which you mean Libertarian.  In a theoretical sense you are correct, as there has never been a “perfectly” libertarian system of government (except, perhaps, in paleolithic times).  However, this same fact could be extended to any theoretical form of government.  In the same way, we could say that a democracy has never existed.  The Soviet Union is a good example of a nation that tried very hard to perfectly mimic a theoretical political system, and is also a good example of why this approach is not sustainable.

    8. That should make you sad.  Please provide some reasons why restoring constitutional government (the same version that we thrived on for 150 years) would “destroy the country”.

      1. The constitution was created to be a “living” document and it was not “carved in stone”.   That is what Paul does not understand.  Starting with the Bill of Rights the constitution has been amended many times and we cannot go back in time.  That makes for good science fiction, but not goverance.

BTW, a good example is the central bank.  We have to have a central bank and the proof is there.  Andrew Jackson took down the 2nd National Bank (for personal reasons to hurt Biddle) and that action resulted in much of the economic turmoil of the 19th century.  We cannot go back to having states issue their own currency.

        1. Ron Paul wants to bring back the gold standard for  money, not have each state issue their own currency, get your facts straight

          1. He wants to end the Fed and bring back the gold standard.  How would that be implemented without the Fed?  The Treasury could not do without greatly expanding, so that would require banks to control the currency and who would regulate the banks?  The states would have to do it.

          2. ahhh, excuse me…according to the U.S. Constitution, ONLY CONGRESS can coin money.  Ron Paul points this out every chance he gets.  Therefore, your neo-con newspaper is either accidentally incorrect or they are outright lying to you.  Of course there is another option—YOU could be improperly understanding the article.

          3. First off, I am not a RonPaul supporter, I was merely pointing out one of his many crazy ideas..

Secondly, I provided a link that if you had spent the time to read it you would have discovered that I did not  improperly read the article.

Read the link and then make an informed decision on what Ron Paul’s H.R. 1098, better known as the “Free Competition in Currency Act of 2011,” says.

          4. He wants to end the Fed and bring back the gold standard. How would that be implemented without the Fed? The Treasury could not do without greatly expanding, so that would require banks to control the currency and who would regulate the banks? The states would have to do it.
            ***********************************************************
Apparently you are not familiar with WHAT the Gold Standard actually IS.  Back when I was in school, Nixon took us OFF the Gold Standard.  The Gold Standard kept our money “sound”.  The govt. could not print more paper money than what was stored (in gold and silver) in Ft. Knox andother federal depositories.  By taking us off the Gold Standard the govt was now allowed to print as much paper and slugs as they wanted/needed and could assign whatever value they wanted to it.  It costs 3 cents to print a $1 bill.  It costs 3 cents to print a $100 bill.  We have NOTHING to “back” either a $1 or a $100, so it doesn’t matter what they print.  It appears you also don’t know what the Federal Reserve is or deos…I don’t want to write a novella, so you should really go study what it is….

          1. Wrong, it was to outline what government can do.  If the Founding Fathers had wanted to LIMIT government they would not have allowed the Constitution to be amended.   You’ll notice that only one amendment restricts a right (Prohibition) and that one was later revoked the rest all give new rights or expand existing rights.

          2. According to how I understand negative rights, I would be able to pollute a watershed in order to make money and the government could not stop me from doing it….

Or I could create a product that is either ineffective or even dangerous (ie snake oil salesman) and sell it to unsuspecting people to make money and the government could not stop me from doing such a thing…..

Or I could own a business and openly discriminate against a particular race and the government not be able to stop me.  Ron Paul, himself, has said that it was OK to do this.  I somehow think you would have a problem with this one if you were the one being discrimatinated against.

Am I right according to your understanding of negative rights?

          3. On the assumption that others may not be familiar:

            **********************************************************
A Negative right is a right,
either moral or decreed by law, to not be subject to an action of another
(usually abuse or coercion) so that restraint is incumbent upon another, as
opposed to a positive right which is a right to be provided with something by
the positive action of another. The former proscribes action, while the latter prescribes action.

One example of a negative right is the
First Amendment of the United States Constitution, which makes it unlawful for
anyone to abridge the speech of another. A law that would require another to
provide him with a microphone would codify a positive right.

            http://www.wordiq.com/definition/Negative_rights
            **********************************************************

In the instance where someone takes offense at another’s
choice of speech, lawyer-assisted government has been encroaching on abridging
free speech for way too long now.

            Shall we continue other examples?

    1. Ron Paul was within 3% of the leaders in Iowa, took second in New Hampshire and at one time he was in second in South Carolina.

  2. I think the photo of Ron above (By Robert F. Bukaty) must have captured the same response Mr. Paul had when our Paul told him how he planned to cut ONLY social programs by providing made up numbers to the legislature and threatening to close our children’s schools. Then for the real knee slapper, provide tax breaks to folks who own estates valued over $2 million! Oh what a laugh they had over that one as 41K taxpayer paid Lauren served them hors doeuvres and fine wine.   Guess in certain circles life is always going to be just grand.

    1. One thing worse than Lauren getting that 41k taxpayer paid salary is people that are paid by taxpayers that are doing nothing but whining about it!

  3. @NE_Voter:twitter
All you and people like you offer is more more uncontrolled spending and a government that continues to erode our civil liberties.  THE COUNTRY IS ALREADY BEING DESTROYED. You suggest voting for the same people that have been taking this country down the tubes.  Ron Paul understands that democracy will
always lead to tyranny and that begins by slowly taking away freedom
    under the guise of security.

How can you talk about small government and your anger about bailing out  Wall St. when Mitt and Newt are already bought and sold by the very  companies and lending institutions that caused this mess?!

    1. Your last two lines say it all. Thank you for putting in words what a whole lot of  common folks think.

    2. Two problems with Ron Paul.  His racism and his age.  Given that he’s 76, we’d actually be voting for his running mate, who has yet to be announced.

        1. How about Paul Madore, his Maine Man: Central Maine’s leading crank. Considering some of his crusades in the not too distant past, that would be quite the ticket! Yowza!

      1. Racist? Nope. If your trying to drum up the ” newsletter” sorry that was taken care of four years ago. Age? Whatever. Desperation?

But go ahead and vote for oabamromneygingrich. You’ll see real change then..hahaha

        1. I agree; it’s just that he seems attractive to so many. What’s with that I wonder? Brain waves maybe?

      2. RON PAUL IS NOT OLD…..HE IS WISE !!!

        – After World War II, Winston Churchill was re-elected as Prime Minister of Great Britain at the age of 76 years, retiring at 80 as one of the most revered political figures of his country’s history. – Golda Meir became the 4th Prime Minister of Israel at the age of 70. – Charles de Gaulle served as the President of France until the age of 79 years old. – Konrad Adenauer, “Der Alte” (The Old One), was elected as the first Chancellor of Germany at the age of 73 years old, leaving office at the age of 87. – Nelson Mandela was elected as President of South Africa at the age of 77 years old, retiring at the age of 81. – Eamon de Valeria was 76 years old when elected President of Ireland. He was re-elected (by the slimmest of margins) at the age of 84! – Other famous elder statesmen of history include Moses, who did his most significant work after the age of 80, and Michaelangelo, who was still working on St. Peter’s Basilica into his 80’s. Mahatma Gandhi was no spring chicken either. George Washington and Ben Franklin were relatively old when they worked to form this country. It doesn’t mean squat to be young. Our current President is a living example of this and JFK was one of the youngest Presidents ever…  he had chronic health problems. Ron Paul has challenged the other GOP contenders to a bicycle race…..doubt they will take him up on it, but if they did…..Ron Paul would win!!!

      4. Ron Paul is willing to challenge any of the Republican candidates and Obama in a 26-mile bike race. According to him, his medical record, if any exists, is probably less than a page long. Find me a serious  candidate who is healthier. :)

      5. You KNOW he didn’t write those couple (out of hundreds) of newsletters, but here’s something he DID say:

“Racism is simply an ugly form of collectivism, the mindset that views humans strictly as members of groups rather than individuals . . . By encouraging Americans to adopt a group mentality, the advocates of so-called “diversity” actually perpetuate racism. Their obsession with racial group identity is inherently racist . . . we should understand that racism will endure until we stop thinking in terms of groups and begin thinking in terms of individual liberty.”

        –  Ron Paul

He’s in better shape than men half his age.  He bicycles and jogs regularly in the Texas heat and humidity.  Did you miss the FL debate where he challenged the others to a 25 mile bike race in the Texas heat and humidity?  Or when the chameleon said he’d vouch for Paul’s fitness after watching him campaign?

    3. If Ron Paul is not the Republican party nominee, I support his nomination for Secretary of Treasury in the next US Administration.

      1. If Ron Paul isn’t the nominee, AND doesn’t run third party, I’m writing him in.  I can’t vote for the destruction of the country at the hands of either party any longer.

        1. My son shares your opinion. My position is that a write-in vote for Ron Paul would amount to a vote for Obama. Realistically no write-in candidate can win this election.

      1. Gingrich might win the GOP nomination but there is NO WAY he could ever win a general election.  He’s got so many skeletons that he needs a walk-in closet for them all.

    1. Bravo! Thanks for a big laugh. Which of these guys did you peg as “Crazy” and which as “Studpidity”?

    2. Wow…what happens when Crazy collides with Stupidity ?!
      *********************************************************
      Obama/Biden
      Bush/Cheney
      Clinton/Gore
      McCain/Palin
      Nader/LaMarche
      Romney/Gingrich/Santorum/Christie/Perry/Bachman…..

    1. Any of the candidates on the Republican side would make a much better president than the present one. Let’s work to send B. Hussein O. back to Chicago/Hawaii/Kenya/? while there is an America left to restore to the great nation it once was.

      1. So which is it that bothers you the most?  That he’s black or that he has an Islamic sounding middle name?

        1. If he’s those things, they both do, as does the entire poor excuse for a man! He’s the little tirant from kenya, he is not a natural born US citizen regardless of where the after birth came from. The poor guy that fathered him was kenyan, per obama’s own admission, which made him kenyan as well. He was lawfully born a british subject and although he may or not have came to be a US citizen, he can never become a natural born US citizen. check it out for yourself:
          http://www.conservativeactionalerts.com/2012/01/georgia-judge-orders-obama-off-the-ballot/

One other point I’d like to make is how Mitt Romney is not eligible to be POS for the very same reason, his father is of mexican decent and a citizen thereof. Mitt Romney can never make the claim to be a natural born US citizen without lying about it. It may be that he was/is ignorant of the law, but that doesn’t some how exonerate him from having to live with this fact. I don’t know much about Romney other than he is not a natural born US citizen and is therefore not eligible to assume the office he seeks.

It is possible they will both continue on and shed these charger, like water off the back of a duck,
in fact I believe that is the way it’ll play out. This is a good litmus test, however, of a states ability to assert its authority over this tyrannical federal government.

“those who make peaceful revolution impossible, will make violent revolution inevitable”. JFK

  4. I have been a supporter of Ron since 2004 when he appeared in the Mike Rupert video saying 911 was created by the US Government.
google   truth and lies of 911 youtube ruppert

    1. You are obviously trying to distort the perception of Ron Paul.  Ron Paul never said anything like that!

    2. The idea that 9-11 was created by the US Government is completely ridiculous!  Mike Ruppert is a conspiracy nut with a few loose screws.  Ron Paul denies ever blaming the US Government for 9-11–he has some fringe ideas with respect the foreign policy, but I highly doubt he ever went that far!

        1. If you have a link to a video showing Ron Paul blaming 9-11 on the US government, I would love to see it!  I looked for it online and couldn’t find it.

          1. I don’t have 2+ hours to go through that whole video.  I skipped through it and didn’t see Ron Paul.  Do you have the Cliffs Notes version of Ron Paul’s statement?  I did find the following summary of Ron Paul’s related beliefs on this subject though:
Paul does not believe the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks were a government conspiracy and has explicitly denied being a 9/11 “truther”, arguing that the issue is not a conspiracy but a failure of bureaucracy. He believes the 9/11 Commission Report’s main goal was “to protect the government and to protect their ineptness—not […] to do this so they can use this as an excuse to spread the war […] Some who did want to spread the war would use it as an opportunity. But, it wasn’t something that was deliberately done.” He does not think the government would have staged such an attack. When asked whether “9/11 was orchestrated by the government”, Paul responded, “Absolutely not.” Paul has stated that he is concerned that someone might create a “contrived Gulf of Tonkin-type incident” to justify the invasion of Iran or suspend the democratic process, adding, “Let’s hope I’m wrong about this one.”

    3. Ron Paul’s position is that the failed U.S. foreign policy of trying to be the policeman of the world tends to spread some resentment to our presence in some parts of the globe and it should be of no surprise when extremist individuals who are fed up in those other countries choose to attack this nation in retaliation.  It’s pretty much basic common sense and making a claim to contrary only points out one’s inability or lack of will to face reality.

Does Ron Paul think 9/11 was an inside job?  NO

Does he think it could have been prevented?  YES

Will his policies help ensure it does not happen again and build our defense to a position where we will strike back with overwhelming force should such an event occur?   YES

  5. Good for Governor LePage  in taking the time to meet with Ron Paul!!  Although I don’t support Ron Paul in his quest to win the GOP nomination, I do like some of his ideas on economics, and Gov. LePage is wise to meet any of the GOP candidates that come to Maine.

      1. Hey, they both have their faults, but at least they both are staunchly in favor of economic policies that will reduce the intrusive nature of government, which is what this country needs right now.

    1. They both believe in balanced budgets, unlike the clueless liberals who think you can print money or continually raise taxes on the working man and women.

      1. You have to make your own,  employees aren’t paid enough to do it for you.    You can grab some from the damaged Lipton’s boxes on the third shelf down next to the shoes and bra’s that were in the fire.    Of course you have to get a key to go to the rest room and hope the water is hot enough.

  6. Good.  LePage needs all the insight and support he can get in his attempts to do the right thing and avoid simply kicking the unsustainable and destructive democrat debt burden down the road to the next generation.

  7. The world hopes for Ron Paul’s message of peace, prosperity and liberty to win in the upcoming presidential elections.  Enough of U.S.A.’s militarism, we can no longer stand the mounting “collateral damage”, the country’s foreign policy is offering to the world.

  8. “percieved loss of freedom” Have you completely lost your mind? How liberal can you get? How can you even say the word FREEDOM while massive governmental institutions dedicated to cowing the civilian population such as the DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY AND THE TSA? SHAME ON YOU!

    1. thanks for posting.
We hope to bring the filmaker Chris Emory to speak in Maine.
His new film  A NOBLE LIE released in December of 2011, caused him to be put on the FBI  Terrorism Watch List.
It details the evidence for FBI  agent Larry Potts and other FBI  agents creating the Oklahoma City bombing.

      see  http://www.reddirtreport.com/Story.aspx/20516

    2. Also SOPA and Section 1021 of the NDAA…..A few too many to be just coincidence…don’t you think?

  9. Dr. No’s fruitless, nearly perpetual campaign for president is interesting because, in some ways, it raises some important points about the role of government.  On the other hand, he makes wild claims about the potential of proposals which are, at best, unrealistic (one could argue that many of these proposals border outright fantasy).  Simply put, the Congressman can make absurd proposals because he has no chance of ever becoming president.  I can see the appeal of Ron Paul to economic conservatives who feel  at odds with the socially backward Republican mainstream, but quite honestly, it’s easy to paint a rosy picture for your supporters when they don’t even require you to address the question of how, let alone the question of what if.

  10.  You notice Ron Paul made sure there weren’t any cameras around when he met with Lepage… That was smart.

  11. Here’s what I’d love to hear Ron Paul say in his next public appearance:

“Citizens of America; I have a slim chance of becoming the Republican nominee this year. I therefore intend to switch parties today, keep my same message and principals, and run as the Democratic Party’s nominee for President of the United States of America!”

  12. You notice Ron Paul made sure there weren’t any cameras around when he met with Lepage… That was smart.

  13. So there where no witnesses and no photos and no one seems sure what time this meeting is supposed to have taken place.
This really sounds like one of Lepage’s stories.

  14. “consistently polled behind the other candidates”?  Why do the media always feel it is necessary to lie about Ron Paul?  What are they afraid of?  Where there is smoke, there is fire and Dr. Paul has been marginalized by nearly every major media outlet in the country.  Why?

  15. I could waste my day arguing with you. However your statement that says Ron Paul is dedicated to a one world government points it out as clear as day that you don’t know single thing about Ron Paul.

Name call less. Include just a couple facts and try to touch ground on something other than feelings.  Until you can do those things your posts are a waste of time.

    1. Yes, I do believe that a paul supporter would know about wasting time. Now if they would just understand waste of O2.

      1. For that comment I would give you a “thumbs down” if I could, but the system is not designed for that. Although not a likely Ron Paul supporter, I applaud his efforts to return this country to what the framers of the constitution intended for it. After all, why have a constitution if we as a nation won’t take it seriously. Right now we have a government run by fiat.

  16. You obviously have no idea how to debate or present an argument, so why don’t you do us all a favor and just stop posting. Like Joe Friday used to say, just the facts.

  17. Ron Paul for ‘one world government’? ‘Worldwide commune’?  You’re not talking about Ron Paul.  If there’s anything he has been consistent about, it’s small, hands-off Federal government, and the sovereignty of the United States.

  18. Ron Paul doesn’t work for the corporate bankers who make slaves out of people, they lend fiction, “money” created out of monetized debt, unlawfully lending their credit, their debt, and expect to be paid in hard earned money what a scam they risk nothing and charge usury; just ask the people who have been forclosed upon.  A vote for any one else is a vote to be treated as chattle. End the Fed! end the fraud!

  19. I take it you  haven’t read ANYTHING about him, but like most moronic sheeple you have listened to the media slant on everything, why don’t you do your own research and you will see his is the only one running that gives a damn about our personal freedom, the rest just want big government to get bigger and micro manage every aspect of our lives….

  20. To my fellow dedicated Americans concerned about the direction of this nation. I am confident that when you vote in this upcoming primary election you will vote to support the constitution that so many generations before us have given their lives to defend. I know you understand the problems before us which must be solved, and the painful truths in those solutions. Like those many patriots of our past, I am sure we will rise to this occasion and show the world that we; the American people, have not lost control of our government, that we do not blindly follow media direction, and that our military strength will no longer be used to invade other nations sovereign in their right to defense . We will demonstrate to the world by our actions that we are a peaceful people, and when the chips are down, Americans pull together not as Democrats or Republicans, but as American citizens defending the aspirations of our forefather’s, taking to task what those generations to come later will call, “Our greatest moment”.
I am positive that one day we will look back at these most troubling times that have befallen our nation and proudly know that we had the courage to support Ron Paul, the man who inspired all Americans to defend their constitution, and reminded us all of our God given freedoms.

    1. This all sounds great! One thing that Ron Paul supporters must do is be vigilant over the vote count. I have good reason to believe that Ron Paul won Iowa and New Hampshire. S. Carolina I’m not as sure but he certainly would have done better had this fraud being committed against all of us not taken place. He does have a hell of a lot of support there however and it’s hard to imagine anyone else, let alone Gingrich, to have convinced enough people that they’re worth coming out in droves to vote for. That state was painted with Ron Paul signs!
Please join in rallying Ron Paul supporters to perform their duty to ensure that all of Ron Pauls votes are counted and recorded in an organized manner that can be later verified and compared with the ‘owwwwwwww numbers. The easiest way it seems would be to make audio recording or a written record with names or voter#. This way, If the official record is out of line, they will already be in a position of strength and able to produce verifyable evidence that they need to step down!

  21. Voting Republican or Democrat is akin to bending over, holding your cheeks apart, and asking for more of that good loving.

  22.  He probably told Lepage, wean yourself off these Federal Programs, dont be the junky hooked to the drugs, because once Obama is kicked out, to balance the budget most of these wasteful programs will be eliminated.

Ron is in favor of chopping 1 trillion in the first year to get the books in balance!

  23. “LePage reached out to Paul “as a courtesy” ” ….Lol ! Sometimes I get the idea that LePage actually thinks he’s a real politician. It doesn’t help Maine’s budget when the Big Bully Governor has to have ARMED guards at his office door because he’s afraid of the people he’s screwing over. LePage is a coward and a bigot and I believe it was Ron Paul that gave LePage the courtesy….not the other way around.

    1. What’s wrong?    Did you get cut off your food stamps?   Were you told no more leeching off the taxpayers?

  24. Maybe someday our Party will allow a candidate somewhere in between Government small enough to drown in the bathtub and big enough to police bedrooms and protect high-risk bankers.

  25. In advance of Ron Paul’s tour of Maine I think it important to thank all the families of Mainers who generationally have made personal life commitments to the military. The experiences of face to face interactions with oppositional governmental aggression which they carry forever is an unmined national defense resource. These Mainers deserve the fullest measure of respect from all others and most especially national politicians who are way to eager discredit, deny or ignore scars borne as a result of ignorant political naivete.

    1. Embarrassing for you.  The rest of us support LePage and Ron Paul but then again we don’t rely on the government to tell us how to think either

      1. Embarrassming for the state.

Lepage isn’t even close to being in the same league. Not even close.

And lepage will endorse who he’s told to endorse. Period.

As for you, well, there is a huge difference between Paul and lepage. Not even comparable.

Btw, your boy lepage does let govt tell him what to think.
There are no similarities between these two.
        Ron Paul 2012!!!

  26. Haven’t read the paper in a few days and missed the article on LePage posting a plain clothes Tropper outside his office door. Well Gov…if you won’t go around bullying people and calling them names and meeting with them with all smiles and than calling their meetings as BS…than you wouldn’t have so many enemies….Start leading instead of dividing Maines citizens and you won’t need a extra tropper. It’s called being rational. If you want to gain respect, you have to first earn it Governor.

    1. There are plenty of us out here who think the Governor is doing exactly what we sent him there to do and therefore continues to earn our respect. Are you suggesting that we either don’t exist or that it’s impossible that we might rationally disagree with you in principle?

  27. Ron Paul supports are pretty sensitive about their candidate!  I hope he stays in the race and splits the republican vote as an independent or libertarian.

  28. Ron Paul suggests that we don’t need ‘Big Government’.  Less not forget people that it was Bush’s lack of responsibility that created President O’Bama to implement more government involvement over private businesses because they lacked integrity not to mention probably stole half of your investments and retirements.   Thanks Ron Paul for coming to Maine but you don’t have my vote!!

  29. Lets fact it, its gonna come down to Obama vs Romney……
*They both are anti 2nd Amendment
*They both want forced governmental healthcare
*The both are rich lying millionaires that have no concept of the American worker
*They both support the Quimby National Park

Either way we are all doomed

    1. * anti 2nd Amendment
      * forced governmental healthcare
*A rich lying millionaire that has no concept of the American worker.
      ***************************
You better take a look around. You’re describing Barack Obama.
Obama couldn’t care less about Quimby.

      1. First, I was talking about “both” Obama & Romney—

Second, you really need to read the paper more often—
Obama more than supports Quimby’s park thing, he has appointed her to the national parks board, sent in Ken Salazar to “tell” the residents of the Katahdin area that we really dont have much to say in the decision making process,,, and then went on to lie to us that he “wasnt invited”

I would prefer Rick Santorum to be the GOP pick, but I will support Newt if not.
But if Romney or Paul is the GOP choice, I like many conservatives, will do a write-in

Romney is no better than Obama, and Paul is just a complete political joke..!

        1. Then you might as well vote for Obama.   None of the current GOP candidates with the exception of Ron Paul will beat Obama.   They do not have the support of the youth vote, Independent vote and the Blue Democrat vote.   Ron Paul has all of those things.    Do yourself and the country a favor and turn off the propaganda spewing main stream media TV & Radio.   It’s time to learn how to think critically & independently. Aw who am I kidding you’re brain is so badly damaged you wouldn’t know which way was up unless you were told.

          1. I have a hard time believing anything from certain commenters, but I am willing and open to keep some options open

Like most I have hot topic areas that can change political decisions right up to the last minute.

My top hot topic areas that I feel strongest are:
*Strong, and unwavering 2nd Amendment support
             *Protect the Social Security system
             *Protect the US Postal System
*Keep troop strength and capability to 2008 thresholds
*Recognize that Israel is surrounded by countries that want them dead just because of their faith, that have denied them a right to exist as a Nation, or that believe that the Holocaust never happened
***Adamantly oppose the creation of a National Park in Northern Maine

  30. I have a great idea—how about we get a knowledgeable reporter to cover stories for the BDN—this one can’t seem to produce an accurate article if his life depended on it.  In Friday’s article, he referred to SOPA asthe “Stop Online Privacy Act” (eye roll)  it is the “Stop Online PIRACY Act”.  Today’s article states the Ron Paul consistently polls behind all three other candidates…wrong again—he has polled FIRST in several and second in most others.  Of course if the poll is conducted by for the Mormon Church, or for the current crop of successfully brainwashed warvangelicals or Newts immediate family members, then Paul would poll behind them….obviouly.  Criminy, everyone that ever worked with Gingrich has come out publicly against him!

  31. I’m beyond impressed that Ron Paul’s most ardent fans are college students. With the intense brain-washing they receive at Universities and Colleges, it appears they have broken away from parts of their captor’s (instructor’s) 4 year pummeling  of their susceptible minds, comprised of  “thought reform.”  They are subjected to being taught under the fictitiousness of classes under other headings other than “mind manipulation.” I assume as such because Ron Paul is pro-life ! Every student, with the excption of a few, are cranked out of college, totally sold on the legal right to kill the unborn. It helps to call the abhorrent practice under euphemistic phrases.

  32. Ron Paul is interesting because he is what he is and says what he means.  I would consider supporting him but I feel he is inconsistent even so.  I like the idea of libertarianism, but not when I get the idea that one religion would be promoted and the government, although it will be cut 1 trillion, will still have the power to enforce sanctimonious attacks on our personal freedoms.  I seriously like Ron Paul despite these failings, but see only one candidate out there who will actually succeed in doing anything positive for the middle class – and that is President Obama.  When he is reelected for his next and final term, he will have the mandate to effect the changes over the objections of the enfeebled tea party.

    1. I like the idea of libertarianism, but not when I get the idea that one religion would be promoted
      ****************************************************
where do you get the idea that “one religion would be promoted?”

  33. Wonder if  Ron Paul asked LePage to be his Vice Presidential Candidate.  They make a perfect pair.

  34. Breaking News Ron Paul Initiates Global Debate

‘Endorse Liberty’ Super PAC to Broadcast 30 Minute Ron Paul TV
    Special in Florida

Pacs buying 30 min time slots in florida

    Google  It

  35. If sombody wants to vote for Mitt, Newt or Obama, Should they first be drug
tested and take a basic mental aptitude test or just a basic drug screen. Most
Americans that answered said a Basic Mental Aptitude along with showing proper
ID at the polls would help tremendiously. You may laugh but people have asked
if I vote for this guy now can I take my vote back later if I don’t like his
performance. Truly amazing how little people know about anything including RON
PAUL. It will be great day in America when people read and have done due
diligence before pulling levers. God forbid if we let voters anywhere near a
    red button.LOL

  36. Delaware Here . We are signing our petitions statewide. People are excited over Ron Paul the only serious candidate that can restore America and this is a great feeling.

  37. For too many of us the wars this country fights are far removed, reduced to headlines in a newspaper or an occasional heartfelt moment when the death of an unknown neighbor is told over local television, but for others these wars live in our home; we are the families of those who serve or have served. Our lives, forever changed, carry the reality of war, and though none of us ask for special consideration, we all expect that every American understand that there is an untold price which is paid by some of us that is not shared by all Americans. It’s time, that as Americans we openly discuss a real end to these wars without being shutdown or censored by the media. It’s time that our candidate for president, a man who promises to bring our men home, be heard and not labeled. It’s time that responsible journalism come to the aid of our nation torn by a decade of war and stand against the bias that silences his words of peace. We don’t ask the nation to pay our price, we only ask that our candidate be heard. Ron Paul has a message for peace and we believe it’s time that it should be heard by all Americans.

  38. Ron Paul supporters, if you haven’t already, please go to VoteRonPaul and make your pledge to vote for him. Take a look at the map that is shown. It’ll show supporters from across the country. Please share the page with your friends, family and other Ron Paul supporters and scroll down to the bottom to like their facebook page. I would love to see EVERY Ron Paul supporter make their pledge to vote for him. We know that Ron Paul has faced and will face continued efforts to marginalize him and even attempts at voter fraud (Iowa for example!) If we could get every single Ron Paul supporter to this site and make their pledge, it is my belieft that it will be hard for them to ignore especially when we start seeing numbers into the millions. We would make people’s eyes pop out of their heads when they see the sheer number of us and no one will ever have a reason to say he is “unelectable” ever again. Thanks.

    1. Mainers,  Please be educate yourself thoroughly about Paul’s foreign policy stand before you make any decision.
