STANDISH – Robert G. Peters, 73, passed away Jan. 25, 2012, from pancreatic cancer diagnosed three months ago, surrounded by members of his beloved family in Branson, Mo., while experiencing a “bucket list” dream. He was born April 11, 1938, in Danforth, a son of the late Robert “Bud” and Helen (Gilpatrick) Peters.
Following his father’s footsteps, he worked in the construction industry. At age 13 he worked as a waterboy on sites and during the next 51 years worked up to the position of superintendent for H.E. Sargent Construction. By the time he reached the position of superintendent, he was coordinating multi-million dollar projects. He was a Mason and Shriner, and enjoyed building projects and playing games.
He was predeceased by his siblings, John Peters and Jean King. Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Norma (Fogg) Peters; daughter, Pamela Snowman and her husband, Tom, of Newport; stepdaughters, Deborah Gallant and her husband, Dan Hamblet, of Little Sebago Lake and Dianne Nason and her husband, Jeff Clark, of Gorham; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and his special puggle dog named Gracie that has been by Bob’s side 24/7 for the last five years since Gracie was 8 weeks old. Robert’s family would like to thank Hospice of Southern Maine, especially Andy Guy, and the hospice staff in Branson, Mo., for their care and kindness.
Visitation will be 2-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, 13 Portland Road, located on the corner of routes 202 and 4A, Buxton/Bar Mills. Immediately after visitation a memorial service will be held 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
