FREDERICTON, New Brunswick – It is with great sadness that the family of Karen Rose Janssen announce her passing Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, Fredericton, New Brunswick, after a courageous battle with melanoma. Karen was born Feb. 12, 1963, in Ajax, Ontario.

She enjoyed knitting, cooking and was an avid reader and especially loved cats.

Karen is survived by her father, John Hogenhout and wife, Shirley, of Stetson; her mother, Dorothy Hogenhout of Fredericton, New Brunswick; a daughter, Kristen Janssen of Victoria, British Columbia; a son, Dirk Janssen of Hamilton, Ontario; granddaughters, Jasmine Walsh, Lily Janssen and Layla Colson; two sisters, Helen Hogenhout of Fredericton, New Brunswick, and Deborah Patterson and husband, Dean, of Lansdowne, New Brunswick; three brothers, James Hogenhout and wife, Pam, of Slave Lake, Alberta, John Hogenhout and wife, Rose, of Burton, New Brunswick, and David Hogenhout and wife, Nancy, of Edmonton, Alberta; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Although there were no visiting hours, friends were welcomed to join the family at the memorial service celebrating Karen’s life, which was held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at Bishop’s Funeral Home Chapel, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton, New Brunswick. The Rev. Bob Jones officiated. Interment will be held at a later date. The Fredericton S.P.C.A. and Cancer Research Society were designated for memorial contributions.
