MILBRIDGE – Beatrice “Bea” Robinson, 89, a lifetime resident of Washington County, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, in Ellsworth. Bea was born April 12, 1922, in Milbridge, to James and Agnes (Cain) Strout.
She grew up in the Milbridge area and later worked at Wyman’s Blueberry Factory for many years. During World War II, she met and married Charles “Red” Robinson while he was working at the South Portland Shipyard. As a couple, Bea and Red were well known, respected personalities that were not only business owners but servants to the community. In her free time, Bea loved playing Beano and time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth and his wife, Lilly, of Milbridge; daughter, Jean Hanington and her husband, Dale, of Benton; sister, Dorothy West of Steuben; five grandchildren, Charles Hanington and his friend, April, Aaron Hanington and his wife, Lisa, Carrie Read and her husband, Scott, Lissa Robinson and Steven Nelson; and nine great-grandchildren. Bea was predeceased by her husband, Charles “Red”; sister, Kathleen “Kay” Flaherty; and three brothers, Roy, Herbert and Elwood Strout.
A graveside committal ceremony will be scheduled in the spring at Steuben Cemetery. Remembrance donations may be made to Palliative Care Services, 50 Union St., Ellsworth, ME 04605. Arrangements by Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Homes, Milbridge.
